She is looking really good Bud, the colours you have chosen are excellent and the decals look great, you overcome the little mishap perfectly.

Des.
Thanks, Des!  Since I'm attempting to do the same plane as Przemo, I'm going with the same colors he used on his.  I'll be delighted if it turns out half as nice as his.
Cheers,
Bud

Hello Bud,

I love your work! Actually, it is simply superb. This causes the urge to buy this kit!

My wife, being a mental health professional, always tells me that I should ignore the voices in my head, so I did and went ahead with the decals.  Now I know better.  I think.

Hahaha, I think many of us have a friend (or not) who speaks in the head  ;D

Despite the problems with decals - it is a beauty, Bud.
I am sure you will solve the problem, in some way.

I think you have done a great job of painting the national
markings, Bud.  The Karaya continues to be a superb
build!  Happy new year, my old friend!

Cheers,
Ernie

I must have been asleep when you posted these updates. The awesome work has awakened me for sure! Brilliant work in spite of your decal issues as always Amigo! Beautiful! I wish we could see yours and Przemos right next to each other, that would be one awesome display!

Merci bien, Arnaud!  Listen to the voice in your head telling you to buy this kit.  You'll be happy you did.  These Karaya kits are still the best 1/48 scale resin kits available.  This will change soon, though, with some new goodies coming from Aviattic and Copper State.

I think you have done a great job of painting the national
markings, Bud.  The Karaya continues to be a superb
build!  Happy new year, my old friend!

Thanks, Ernie!  I wish I had painted them.  Those are the kit decals, extensively repaired and touched up.  I actually used diluted white glue to secure some of the pieces that had pulled off.

Thanks, Amigo!  I wish Przemo and I could display these together.  Maybe with some photo shop trickery?

Thanks again for checking in, my friends.  Happy New Year to all!
Cheers,
Bud

Thanks, Ondra, Martin and Przemo!  Slowly making progress.  This is the the third straight kit that I've built, now, where the struts are dodgy or nonexistent.  My next build will be something easy, something from Eduard or Roden, where the struts are all there and they just snap into place.
Bottom wing is on and Gaspatch turnbuckles are in place.

For reasons unknown to me or anyone else I've spoken to, the DFW C.V had turnbuckles at both ends of each wire, so I have to repeat this process on the top wing.

Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I used Aviattic CDL (German/AH) for all fabric surfaces.  I really love this stuff and will be using it for every build from here on out.
I hope this photo shows the fabric look adequately.

Gloss white is recommended for the base coat, but tonal variations can be achieved with different shades of white or tan.
Cheers,
Bud
