Martin, Bob, Lukas, and Des,
I'm no great fan of PE either however I do like the effects it adds for panels and vents etc. I've got the "chin" cowling with all it's louvres almost done, this is really good quality material and burnishing works beautifully on the soft brass. I'd have no reservations in recommending this set.

I elected to completely remove the vent opening area from the Kit component to maximise the open louvres effect.

There's several pieces included for the cockpit which I'll get started tomorrow.
Cheers,
Lance

Looks great and the photo etch looks great, how did you get such clean results on the bends?

 Lance,
Wow the louvered nose panel is truly amazing work my old friend. Like yourself I'm not a big fan of PE detail but after seeing your efforts with this new (At Least to me) Brengun set I may well rethink my opinion of PE. I'm dying to see how the rest of the set works out for you.
Highest Regards,

Wow, those are some nice louvers, Lance. We're really seeing a renaissance of brass and louvers these days!

Lance,
As the others have commented the brass panel and louvers are awesome! I have stayed away from this kit for years but you are sure making it tempting  8)

Thanks for looking and for your comments. I use a simple burnishing tool bought, I think, from a Hobby Shop in Edmonton years back which has since gone out of business like so many. The "secret" is a semi flexible or soft surface to work on, I find a dense cardboard the best although I've used rubber gasket material on the harder or thicker PE material.

The cardboard used here is salvaged from a box of frozen chicken wings, once the work is complete the product, with a nice cold ale, makes the work seem so much more "complete"! These louvers need a bit more smoothing out and they'll be ready for installation.

Lance

Lance, are you annealing the brass before you work on it?

Michael,
Not this particular stuff, it's already quite "soft" and works well as is. The last time I annealed before shaping was the Eduard set for the Fokker DVII in 1:48 Scale, the etched fret was a much thicker material and the harder "silver" type, much harder to work with. I am really pleased with the quality of this Brengun line.

So my question is, were they buffalo wings? Bbq wings? Hot wings? Teriyaki? Something more exotic? Your brass is looking great and I want to be sure to repeat your process exactly! ;D

George,
Buffalo of course! Just be sure the cardboard is the tighter or denser core type as in most freezer boxes and all will be fine! I insist on healthful choices in food ::), so if you have M&M Meats in your area that's the stuff! Truth to be known I sneak them into the menu when the Good Wife leaves me home alone and Wonder Dog and I go on a real health food kick. It does wonders for the soul! 8)

What he's not telling us is that he soaked the brass in the wings' hot sauce thereby doing away with the need for annealing with a flame.

Drat!! Can't fool you Guys "no-how"!! :(

The "silver PE stuff" is stainless steel, BTW

Probably not a good idea to attempt to anneal it.

Ahhhh, that probably explains why it didn't seem to make much of a difference, if any. :P ???

Small update, the Photo Etch components are completed, the fuselage frame shown "posed" for now.

The Brengun PE Set proved a pleasure to work with, now it's time to start spraying some paint on this little devil.
Cheers,
Lance
