A tiny, tiny update and one that melted my brain!

Good god knows how he manages to fabricate them but today I installed the Taurus Models 'Spark Plug for inline engines'

LOL - yes I'm aware of the thumb print in the next photo - I really should remember to dry my hands before setting up the items for photos!

An extremely good looking engine James, the added extras make all the difference.

That engine looks fantastic, James.  Those plugs really add a lot to the realism.
Cheers,
Bud

Another tiny update!

Having got all the spark plugs in place I suddenly thought "Hang on its going to be a bit tight in there!"

So I decided to drop the engine and oil tank in and dry fit the internals to the fuselage, low and behold there is a rogue spark plug.

Now I had to go over all the reference materials I had, to find not only images of C.IIa in the earlier configurations but also the left side! Trust me there are few and far between that have been published. In the end I found one image that showed how the spark plug was attached, which makes sense really but I want to be accurate - basically while the others are on the vertical the front is on the horizontal.

so with all the plugs attached there wasn't really anything I could do until my Taurus order arrived.

PING PONG (what can I say its an Asian door bell!)

So with my order in hand, Thank you Lukas! i went to work removing the parts needed - I managed to get the intake manifold parts in place and on the kit, it was a chore and really should have done it before painting/building but hey.... .more photos to follow!

Hi James!!!

Although Im watching this (again I know!!!) on the fb, still like to leave some positive notes/comments over here too. I love results on the crankcase using uschi's powder - I used it on my Oeffag and then it all disappeared when I closed fuselage... and thinking of it I need to get more type of the powder from Uschi :)

You definitely are doing great justice to this great looking aircraft!!! ;)

Thank you sir!

I love building the interiors and I guess that's why we post the WIP on the forums and other social media outlets so that others can enjoy the level of insanity we all delve into.

I'm now getting to the point where I need to start thinking about how to accomplish the fuselage scheme, I have an idea but I need to see if I can actually pull it off or not!

James, your engine is looking great! I appreciate your attention to detail and research to get everything as correct as possible.

I have a question about the Uschi metal powders. Are they much better than the other metal powders on the market? My local hobby shop has Mig powders and a few of the Uschi powders, but the Uschi stuff is 3 times the price! Is it that much better? Or can you get similar results from other brands? I don't know if you've tried others, but if anyone else has compared the products, can you offer an opinion please?

Thanks,
George

I'm really sorry I can't answer that question as I've only ever used Uschi - as you know i'm very new to the hobby so don't really have a lot of experience with materials, these came recommended via another modeler so I used them and liked them.

Coming together nicely :)

The front plug lead reaches back over the priming cup lever and then down through the gap between the cowl and cylinder to the distribution tube. Here's a harshly lit photo of mine:

Thank you for that, I got the same from the Windsock data file - but I never knew there was a primer cup there! Do you have better reference photos as I'm finding there are lots of pictures of crashed C.II's and the external shots but nothing of the inside and engine area!????

Hi George!!!! Which powder are we talking about? I bought some pigments from Mig (old aluminium and bright iron) and they give nowhere near results as the one I have from Uschi. Im using Mig's washes and other pigments such as dirt. I also like Uschi's stuff because I can achieve different results on different surfaces - for example I can make Alclad paints more shinny or apply powder straight on black surfacer to achieve metallic effects of different shades. Besides I guess It will last for few kits ;)
