Classic Planes 1/72nd AEG G-IV
« on: March 28, 2015, 01:34:41 PM »
All,

All of this awesome activity on the vac site has prompted me to start another one too.  The Staaken is almost done so I need another vac fix.

It also helps that there appears to be some WNW AEG Fever as of late.  I can use those lovely builds for some help on this little brother.

Anyway just starting and I'll be cutting out main parts tonight.  Stay tuned!

Dan

That looks like quite a beast!  When you said you were considering an AEG I thought you were talking about the smaller C.IV.  I'll be looking forward to watching you put this one together.

I'll be watching this for tips - I have my Merlin one on the shortlist as soon as Aviattic's hex camo is available.

All,

I just got all the parts out, sandwiched the wings together, cut out cockpits etc. and here you see it sitting on the bench just for show.  The stab in the kit has a top and bottom but I'm just using one side and sanding.  I think that will ultimately look a bit better.

You can see one cowl is together too.  My plan is to have one engine open and one cowled.  We'll see how far that plan goes.  I'm loving looking at the WNW AEG builds since those will help with my interior etc. a lot.  Keep building!!!  ;D

Thanks for looking,

Dan

All,

This little guy is moving along and going quite smoothly.  :D

I modified the cockpit openings to look more like the correct shapes...though the nose section should be more of a round opening (I think) but I'll leave that one "as is".  The tails and struts went on easily, the fuselage closed and I cut the lower wing apart at the dihedral joint so I can put it together in sections like the real one.  I also put a nice brass tube through the lower wing and fuselage making this all very strong.  Various struts have also started to be added.

I'll start working on getting the cabanes in position or at least mocked up a bit and then do the interior.  The cockpit openings are so large, the interior will be quite easy to finish even with the fuselage sides together.  This will also make it easier to add pieces since the finished dimensions will be easier to match.

Really a fun build and starting to take shape!

Cheers,

Dan
