It is such an awesome model you have built.
Do you think it is better first thinning the cowling part?

I thank you all for your extremely kind words and your concern over my engine faux pas. Not to worry, though. I think it'll be okay with the substitute. With the red cowling, I think I'm kinda likin' it better with the top cowling pieces in place. Working it all out now, along with decaling the wings. Should have some fresh pics up soon.

Looking forward to the pics Bud! I think I have probably mentioned this already but it is worth repeating,( IMHO). My wife once described my rendition of this scheme as a cardboard box wearing boxer shorts!

Thanks, Rick, Patrick, Stefan and Bob! Sorry for taking so long to respond. Just trying to plow through this one so I can start on the Macchi in earnest. Sorry, Stefan, but by the time I read your post, I had already ruined the Roden engine with a second attempt to make it fit and installed the Karaya engine.

I had been waiting for a pair of Gaspatch Spandaus, but couldn't wait any longer so decided to modify the kit guns with BEAM photoetch. Really fiddly, but I like the way they look.

Painted and installed them last night.

The irony of this is that the Gaspatch guns came today. Oh, well. I'll just same them for another D.VII or a Roland D.VI.
Wings are fully decaled using Aviattic's excellent cookie cutter loz and I will hopefully have this baby done tomorrow.

i have done extensive study on the available merc d.iii series engines which come with the kits and am resin. the roden engine although not bad is generic in the sense that it is not any exactly meaning neither d.iii, nor d.iiia nor d.iiiau. kinda like the 1/32 roden merc. the pavla and vector are built off the roden chasis the vector being more extensively modified and nicer. eduard has 2 basic versions the older which is slightly smaller and simplified and the version above which comes with the fokker d.vii kit. artillery used the newer eduard which comes with the d.vii to make there resin replacement which comes with the fly roland d.vi kits. the older smaller eduard was used as the bones for not only the karaya(highly detailed) but also blatently copied by special hobby,hr model,copper state, etc .etc.etc. bottom line this is what we have to chose from. the main problem is the larger and nicer types based on the roden engine wont fit in eduard,special hobby and many many others designed for the smaller eduard engines. what we 1/48 modellers need is a series of nice 1/48 merc engines representing accurately the d.iii/160hp,d.iiia/180hp and d.iiiau/200hp that will fit in the multitudes of kits that arent roden.

), some surgery is required to get a decent Merc motor in 1/48 scale (c'mon, Taurus!). That's why I have yet to fully expose an engine. Maybe when I get around to building an Albi.
Rick, I'm afraid she's still a monoplane, but at least she's on her feet.

Finally got all that rigging done

using Gaspatch turnbuckles, C type.

Top wing on tonight, maybe?
