Fokker D. VI Roden 1/72
« on: September 15, 2014, 05:27:05 PM »
One of my favorite WW.1 biplanes and the smallest I have built so far is the Fokker D. VI.

The old Roden kits are not easy to build. The Fokker D. VI is no exception. Especially the stuts and the upper wing made some touble. The wing was disorted like a banana. Droppiong it several times in Hot water and carefull bending and aligning solved the problem.
I used the PE set from part to enhance the model. 75% of the set was used, maybe 25% are visible ;)

I was not happy with the Roden decals and used the Eagle Strike decals which at the time when the model was built,  were to my opinion the best available.

The struts were also disorted and very thick. I sanded them down as much as possible and straightenend them. This had to be done very carfull as the plastic was somewhat prone to break, because it was porous.

Weathering was only done with the airbrush and heavy dilluted Tamiya Smoke, Gunze sail and Gunze mud. No oil Colors, no pastels.

A model thrives on its overall impression and not on that every little disagreement over the original is hyped up as a disaster

That's very nice and the first D.VI I've seen on here. I've also built the same kit but I haven't shown it on here because it was my first attempt at putting on lozenge decal and I made a bit of a mess of it.  :-\

Squiffi it was not the first D VI.

Excellent build of one of the less known late war aircraft. Great to see this and such a beautifully finished example too.

A great model indeed and the lozenge looks perfect! I really admire your craftmanship in such a small scale!
Best regards

Fantastic, Wolf. It is probably the best D.VI model I have ever seen. Congratulations!

Hello Wolf:

Great job on this little gem.  The lozenge turned out quite nicely and the weathering enhances the model.  Very nicely done.

Best
