FB,
Hope the dark grey exercise works; I'm looking forward to your next post as I'm at the stage of leaving the "post shade" as is on my build or further weathering/toning down with a light spray of grey or tan. Your efforts may make the decision for me.
Watching closely for the next update.
Cheers,
Lance

Unfortunately, this photo really doesn't show the dirty gray remnants too well, but it did add that certain "something" that I was looking for.

The scary part,... plane (after applying a fairly heavy acrylic clear coat), receives a soft over-spray of dark gray. This will be wiped down with a damp brush to give some "character" to the model, (I hope).

How soon do you wipe down the dark gray overspray and what do you dampen the brush with?  btw the model and finish look great.

The majority of the fuselage and wings were done a day after spraying. Brush was dampened with brush cleaner. It's an effect that probably needs some work for a really nice touch, but it came out OK, so I'm moving on.

F.B.
I like the effect you got with the grey wipe/wash. I scrolled back to shots taken prior and noticed that the hiliting/shading around the engine panels in particular looks much more realistic and the subtle different tones of green on the turtledeck/top cowl immediately behind the engine looks very nice. Great job, she's looking very nice indeed.
Cheers,
Lance

This thing almost has me at my wits end. I attached upper wing, only to find it was skewered clockwise from CL. Trying to correct this, I broke almost every outer strut attachment point. After re-gluing struts, and making some tweaks, I discovered that none of the central struts will fit (at least I couldn't get them to), so I started making new ones from .040 rod,... not accurate, but expedient. I no sooner finished with the preliminary assembly of these, than I discovered that now upper wing is skewed counter clockwise from CL!

One way or the other, tomorrow sees the end of this project, as I can no longer spare the time I'll use up on this that I need to use to finish my other project for the early September deadline.

Now you know why Fokker started with monoplanes (E.I) and ended with monoplanes (E.V) he also hated struts.... 8^)

Hang in there, it's a beautiful model.  I had the same problems when I built the early Eduard Fokker DVI - the struts were giving me fits I ended up using brass rod as well.

  Kevin,
Hang in there my old friend. It would be a shame to shelve her now with all your efforts put in this project.

How did it end up FB?

I'm with Gregory, it'd be a real shame for her to languish on a dusty shelf - she looks so good!!

That puts my recent frustrations on the group build into perspective. Kind of like the Einstein "I can assure you my problems are greater" thing.

I got caught up on this build after being away a bit. I was empathetically wincing for you, but I'd still really like to see this when it's done.

Chin up, mate!

i like the subtle accentuation (wash?) on the cowl panels and vents.it looks just right as well as the overall scheme and impact of the model. nice just man.
