Hello Lance:

I too like the colors and the way they turned out with the pre-shading.  I am going to have to get one of Ron's cowls.  Really nice.  I like the addition of spare P.E. around the fuselage rigging holes.  Nice touch and adds that little extra touch.  Looking forward to your next update and seeing your progress.  I have another one of these in the stash.  One of these days.  ;)

Best

Man, she's a colourful bird! Lots of masking and colour changes on display here. She'll be a beauty when you're finished.

Are you thinning your Tamiya acrylics with their proprietary thinner or lacquer? I've switched over to lacquer in the last few years and find it works extremely well.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks Gents, makes it all the more enjoyable! Chris, I thinned with Tamiya's Lacquer Thinner, makes it go on pretty smooth and dries almost instantly.
Cheers,
Lance

More progress, but this Kit is fighting me every step of the process. With the exception of the interplane struts all the decaling is complete. The striped pattern on the cowling proved a total nightmare, we came very close to a change in colour schemes! Lots of touch up to be done on those little devils! The rest of the decals behaved very well (the Squadron Superscale Set by Cartograph)

Here's the cowling, posed with blue tack, (excellent rendition by Aviattic) showing a fairly busy schedule of repair ahead! The landing gear template/jig is loose fitted in the background. It's ready for assembly and final painting tomorrow.

The amount of detail visible in the cockpit is pretty well limited to the seat (Ron Kootje through Aviattic, nicely done!) and HGW Belts, which I see need a bit of a haircut!

All of the anchor points and loops for the rigging are complete with the exception of the two "doubles" per side which will have Gas Patch Turnbuckles (1:48 Scale) installed at the bottoms in the holes visible here.

After a few paint touch ups on the coaming and landing gear she'll be getting an overcoat of semi gloss clear; I've decided to do some post shading after all as the rib detail is so subtle it all but disappeared with painting, and the colours are too bright for my liking.
Not exactly ready for the Hall of Shame yet, but definitely a bigger challenge to complete well then the several Wingnut Products I've done of late!
Cheers,
Lance

In spite of the challenges, you seem to have mastered them, Lance.  The decals look fantastic against that gorgeous paint job.  Don't give up on this one, buddy.  She's gonna be a stunner.
Cheers,
Bud

Despite the tough spots you encountered, it certainly looks like you will prevail over this Roden build.  It looks really great even if you're compelled to beat up on the cowling some more.  This one is going to be a stunner!

You have performed a magic act on this kit Lance, what you have achieved is amazing considering the challenges you faced. The paint scheme is brilliant and extremely well executed and the decals are awesome, the brilliant seat and the seat belts add those finishing touches, this is going to be a real show stopper when completed.
