Airco DH.9 (1/32, Wingnut Wings)
« on: March 04, 2014, 08:00:20 AM »
I have been working on this kit for over two weeks now. I am planning to build a model of one of 20 Dh.9s donated by Great Britain to Poland in 1920. They were used in the war against Russia in 1920. I have chosen H5721 known from two photos, one of them is included in the Windsock Datafile on DH.9.

I have been busy with interior bits, there are quite a lot of them. The photos in the Datafile and in the WNW instruction do not reveal too many details not covered in the kit. A few exceptions include:
i) four cables running to the panel at the right hand side of the pilot instrument panel (I have already added them from a thin wire - just visible in the third photo)
ii) copper pipes (?) running along the right side of the pilot place which will be added to the assembly later.

I have added quite a few of Bob's eyelets for the interior rigging, painted all the bits, decalled the instruments and info plates, applied some wash which still has to be retouched and sealed with varnish. Then the real interior assembly will start.

An excellent start Prze, your instrument panel looks brilliant as does the rest of the interior, looking forward to seeing this build progress.

Gorgeous work on the innards, Prez!  So glad to see a DH9 being built.  I'm really going to enjoy this project.
Cheers,

Hi, Przemol, here I am... :) Thanks for sharing your build - an interesting subject, you choose: I am very much interested in the "post-Great-War"-period, especially in the east. The interior looks very promising so far! I like especially the wood-effect, you achieve.

Oh man, Prze, you do such good work.  Your woodgrain looks fantastic and the colour of
the interior is beautiful.  The detail bits really bring it all to life.  Superb start.
I will enjoy following your build, my friend.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Hello Prez:

Thanks for posting the photo of the wireless.  For a minute, just a passing nano second, I thought it was the wireless from the kit and you had detailed it in the fashion of Bo and Dave (KONG), thereby elevating the modelers art to a heretofore unprecedented new level of realism.   ;)   That being written, it provides a lot of detail for detailing the kit wireless.

Thank you, everybody for your kind welcome to my new build.
And I am very very grateful to acewwi for the excellent photo of the wireless! You saved me, or better say - my model. I was suspecting the all black was dubious. With your help I could correct the colours!

So here are a few close-ups

Macro-photography is merciless. I still have to correct a couple of details.

For sure, but what you've done looks splendid to me. I like the leather tones on the seat cushions, and the instrument panel is really a little jewel...
