Beautiful even paintwork on the wings, Bud. You're going to need a bigger
workbench, my friend! ;) ;D

Cheers,
Ernie :)
Thanks, Ernie!  I probably will, especially when I do the dual Fee build. :o
Cheers,
Bud

Bud,
Sorry for the late response to your painting update! The CDL looks perfect as does the rib work! I like Humbrol also but it is getting more difficult to find. The Tins are a pain but one can transfer the paint to a mixing bottle.
RAGIII
No worries, Amigo, and thanks!  That's exactly what I've done.  I even ordered a few more mixing bottles in anticipation of all the Humbrol I'll be using in the future.
Cheers,
Bud

Would laquer thinner help drying time with Humbrol? I put that @#&! on everything.

I think it would, Steve.  I've thinned acrylics with it with pretty good results.  Should work even better with enamels.
Cheers,
Bud

Bud,

Try about 10% laquer thinner to speed the drying time.  Both are looking good, ( and my, all future work will be 2 at a time) Got to agree  the GP Vickers jacket is cool beyond belief. Let me of the test fit as I plan on getting the Se5.

Hello Bud:

Great job on the surgery of the Vickers.  The preshading turned out superb as well.  I too like using Humbrol paints; no matter how old they are they always seem to stir up and go on well.  I use either laquer thinner or MEK substitute for all of my thinners and they work great on everything so far except Testors Acryl.  So, I don't use Testors Acryl.  There is only one store in this area that carries a vast array of Humbrol and that is in St. Paul.  I have to plan that trip, it isn't far but it's a bit out of the way.
I too have quite a stash of 1/48 but; it is all Aurora or Glencoe.  I really enjoy those kits, but; I am hooked on phonix, er, ahh I mean 1/32nd.
Looking forward to your next update Bud.

Best

Mark

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, Ed.  Just got my SE5a yesterday and checked the gun this morning and it looks like a perfect fit.  Good news for me, as well, since I have one of the E types left over.  That SE5a is a sweet kit, Amigo.  You're gonna love it.
Cheers,
Bud

Thanks, Mark!  I just order my Humbrol from Hannants.  My F150 really guzzles the petrol, so by the time I drive the 40 odd klicks to my LHS, I've spent more than the shipping charges, and then there's no guarantee they have the colors I need.  Good old Hannants.
Your bike uses almost no gas at all, so that trip shouldn't be too bad, no?
I really would love to see your take on those old 1/48 scale kits.  Is the DH4 you have the Aurora kit?  I thought you had the Roden American DH4.  If you do, the Marine Corps version would look really cool next to your Ninak.
Cheers,
Bud

Bud,
Hannants must be one of the few Suppliers that will ship paints. I can't even get liquids delivered via Land Courier here in Western Canada. I drive an F350 and it's basically 200 miles to the nearest LHS; needless to say supply runs are few, far between, and well planned!

Give Hannants a try, Lance.  I'm not sure about Canadian customs, but here the only paints I have trouble getting via post are lacquers.
So, with the F350, do you get about 10mpg?
Cheers,
Bud

Hi Bud:

I have two Aurora DH4's and an AMT DH4.  I have been toying with Getting the Roden Kit for the decals.  I am thinking of doing the Aurora Breguet 14 for our upcoming NORDICON (The premier modeling event in the great upper Midwest) in October, but now that somewhat decent weather is here, rain notwithstanding, and working two jobs, modeling has taken a back seat, (again).  Not getting much Harley therapy either with all the rain.  Unbelievable.  I did manage to get the Snipe finished.  Photos forthcoming.  I will have to try Hannants.  I do like Humbrol.

Best

Bud,
I actually get about 20 mpg (Canadian gallon though) which I can live with. She's a left over from my days being a Range Control Guy here in the Oil & Gas Patch; can't imagine being without my super wheels..........and I've been just about everywhere with the old Darlin! 40 below and on an ice road in the middle of nowhere with not a care, wonderful truck!
I'll have to do a trial run with Hannants, Humbrol is a great product!
Cheers,
Lance

Sorry for the delay in responding, guys.  Our daughter and her 3 yr old son have moved back in with us and my babysitting duties have tripled.  I really don't mind at all in spite of the reduced modeling time.  Grandfathering is the best job in the world.

Mark and Lance, I apologize for leading you astray with Hannants.  They apparently no longer ship enamels across the pond.  However, Sprue Brothers and Squadron both carry Humbrol.  New source for me.

I got a bit more done on this pair.  Both are fully painted and decaled.  Just need to do a little weathering, slap on wings and such, then I'll be done.

Cheers,
Bud

Both aircraft are looking spectacular Bud, the paint colours and decals are excellent.
