silver Nieuports question
« on: December 25, 2013, 03:49:05 AM »
There seems to be conflicting information on how silver painted Nieuports 17 through 27 were finished. Some say just the engine cowling was left in natural aluminum and the rest of the fuselage painted. Another states natural aluminum cowling, natural aluminum oval engine access covers only, and the rest of fuselage painted. Another source says that engine cowling and all aluminum on the forward side panels of the fuselage was left natural. Which is choice is most likely correct?
I know that the bottom of the front fuselage was plywood. Is the top panel of the front Nieuport fuselage surrounding the machine guns made of plywood or aluminum?
Similar question on silver Hanriot HD.I's. Was the all the aluminum left natural or painted silver?
I want to use Alcad on the natural aluminum surfaces and regular silver paint on the other sections.
