G'day, Bud.

Lovely work all over, mate, but I'm really impressed with the way you've done the CDL.  Brunswick Green is an evil colour- it looks black in some lights, dark green in others or a brownish drab at times.  You seem to have tamed it, though.

Cheers.

Dal.

Being late to this party, I just wish to express my admiration for this build. Very, very fine, detailing, paintwork, all around. Looking forward to next instalments.

Thanks an awful lot, gents.  I'm in the process of drilling rigging holes and gluing in eyelets, so nothing really of note to post just yet.  Hopefully in a day or two.
What train goes up to your place?  Don't know if we will be able to get up there, we are going to spend some time in Calistoga.
Amtrac runs from Madison to Sacramento, but it's really pricey.  Cheaper to fly, but you'll probably drive.  I love Calistoga.  We were just there for Carol's birthday.

It really is an evil color, Dal.  Looks like something a killer would wear.  I don't think it can be tamed.  Probably why 44 Sqd chose it.
Cheers,
Bud

I've made just a wee bit more progress, hampered by the arrival of my WNW Tripe which in turn sparked a desire to correct some issues in my Eduard Triplane kit.  On top of that, there was a recent discussion on the merits of the Eduard Camel versus the Blue Max Camel on the www.wwimodels.org forum, or "the list", as it is commonly known by it's members.  That discussion prompted me to break out my Blue Max kit in order to prove that in many ways it's as good as the Eduard kit.
So, with all those distractions, this is all I have so far.
Got the prop done.

Got the cabane struts on and partially rigged.

And I fabricated that little tear drop shaped thingy that I believe is a vibration dampener.  Carved it from a bit of a Hales bomb left over from a Roden DH4 kit.  Don't understand why Eduard doesn't include one in the kit.  All the Camels had 'em. ???

Drilled 2 sets of holes through it for the rigging to pass through, then plugged the holes with guitar string to keep the paint out.

Thanks for lookin'.
Cheers,
Bud

Nice update on the Camel, Bud.  Good work on the "teardrop thingy".  As you mention,
I don't know why Eduard didn't include that bit.  Save a lot of fiddling.  The cabane rigging
looks really good.  What do you use for rigging material?  Before I forget, the propeller
looks first-rate.  The rich colour is perfect.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Hello Bud,

Couldn't agree more with Ernie. Your propeller is magnificent, and you did a very good job on the cabane struts rigging. And your vibration dampeners are very inventively done. Great work my friend!

Kind regards
Patrick

Hello Bud

It's good to see how you've approached the little acorn thing. I'll need to face the challenge in the not too distant future. I've an idea that the profipack Camel contains a small resin piece for this.

Isn't there another bringing together the rigging wires between the undercarriage legs?

Best wishes
Nigel

Hello Bud:

This is really taking shape Nicely. I like the little thingy you made, will add a bit of interest to the cabane rigging in the front.  This would be a neat a/c to see in 1/32nd scale.
Looking forward to more updates.

Best

Mark

Thank you for your comments, guys!
I've an idea that the profipack Camel contains a small resin piece for this.
You're right, Nigel.  The Profipack does contain these bits, but they're a too small for the kite I'm modeling.
Isn't there another bringing together the rigging wires between the undercarriage legs?
Not on the ship I'm replicating.  There's also no Rotherham pump visible in any of the photos.  Not on the cabane struts nor the undercarriage struts.  Now, the Bentley powered Camels had an internal pressurization pump, but this ship is Le Rhone powered.  It must have also had an internal pump, but I can't find anything confirming this.

I've finished the rigging.  All that's left, now, are the undercarriage, the aileron controls, Holt flare brackets and lights, the windscreen, prop and guns.

I just realized, after looking at these photos, that the dual flying wires don't show up at the angles at which these photos were taken.  Hmmm.  Trust me, they're there.
Cheers,
Bud

Beautiful work to date Bud, the rigging looks superb. I am pretty sure that the little tear drop thingy when fitted to a standard Camel was there to keep the rigging cables clear of the two machine guns.
