hem... I'm not able to catch the extra brace on the undercarriage... it's that under the cowling?  ???

it's more apparent in some of the other pics of this aircraft... it's this thing -- an extra strut from the "wing" between the wheels up to the fuselage rear wheel struts. Several Jasta Boelcke Dr.1s seem to have this mod.

I think the arrangement is something like this:

blue = existing struts
red = tubular brace, external, field mod.
yellow = brace from horizontal tube to back? of rear strut?

What you are seeing is the subwing brace......Jasta Boelcke had these on some machines as did Jasta 36 and Jasta 12.  There are others too I am sure.

hi all!

sorry for the long absence, I needed some time to deal with the paintwork of this project...
after a trillion of trials, I go for it on one of the models, I'm tired of testing!

1843

1841

1842

enamels, that's all. after those will be dried, I'll do some more defined stripes...
bye bye, p. ;)

thank you, bo...

unfortunately, in the last times I'm very busy with the "real" life, so I do very little around the bench. ..and this little goes wrong! :'(

since the last painting session, I improved (?) it with oils:
1880

but I'm not satisfied. I hope that doing other streaks with oils, and then postshading will help, but I'm not sure at all about it.

meanwhile, I experienced other nice things...
the beautiful, crispy, decals,
1890

and the funny transparent effect of them!
1921

I'm still searching solutions for those... at least something not so frustrating.
1923

the worst of all is the turquoise base of two of them. I dislike it totally, even if the friend to whom they will go wants them like that.
so, I keep on going with the other two Dr. just with oils:
2164

also the doped one is... is... bwarf. :(
2162

in the end, here we are. I think that the only way to combat this feeling is go ahead, so...
2169

bye, p.

I think the colors & streaking on the doped one look pretty darn good.

Hello Paolo:

I think you are right.  Soldier on.  The streaking is difficult at best.  I think once the model is finished, it looks better.  I like what you have done and I think your friend will like it as well.  Too bad about those pesky Roden Decals.  I think with the LO, just go over it with red paint, very carefully of course and you will be fine.  I like the "LO" scheme of Udet, and if I did it I would use a mask for the LO so the black streaks wouldn't show through.  Glad to see you back at it and I am looking forward to seeing your completed works.

Best

Hi Paolo,
I'm with Mark and Bo, your streaking finish(s) looks really good to me, and as Mark pointed out that particular finish looks better once the model comes together at the completion stage. I've only done this finish once and it is a very difficult one to replicate, you've done a fine job. This is a very large and ambitious project that I`m enjoying following........keep at them!
Cheers,
Lance

I like the results of your streaking using oils, My favorite method  8) As for the turquoise base I may be in the Minority but I still think there are good arguments for the 2 pre production and at least one or two production versions having Blue as a base. JMHO,

Thank you all, gents!
actually I can not stand the various failures of this project, but I must to admit that layer above layer of oil streaks is improving this damn finish.

some sparse improvement; in the last period I am working away from home six days, one out of service, simulator, + 5 on duty... really no time to paint!
I hope to steal half a day in the next few days to try some airbrushing postshading with oils around...

here we are today:
high contrast in sunlight image to show the "new" stripes. here the difference between the blue and sand base it's no so evident. ....may be?
2335

a sample wing each of one of the three, I tried to differentiate also the direction and "heaviness" of the striking on.
2337

sand kempf,
2338

udet's one, with doubled red decals... I guess it's suffice?
2339

blue kempf.
2340

that's all, for now!
greetings, p.

Good painting effect creating the streaky camo effect.

This one's going to look very sharp when completed

I think your reworking of the streaking has improved the look of an already good looking trio of Tripes!!

looks good Paolo ... but I believe the wheel covers should be streaked radially (like the bottom example)  :o :/
