1/48 Revell (Eduard) Bristol F.2B Fighter
« on: November 04, 2013, 09:54:16 PM »
Hi friends,
after finishing my Albie I'm going to think about the next project. It's the reboxed Eduard F.2B Fighter. I got this one as birthday gift from my best friend.
Looking through the sprues and the manual there are quite a lot of tiny parts, looks like a complex build with lots of rigging. So I should do a careful planning before starting the build. Yet I'm not sure of which version I will go, included are two British versions. As usual Revell didn't include PE parts. Maybe I should seek for them?

greetings ro

I've been very tempted by this one, but a bit concerned about having to hang the bottom wing. I shall watch with interest.

Hi,

I finished this model just a month or two ago and it is wonderfull and I had a lot of fun building it. The PE fret (I build the Eduard's profipack) adds mainly to the gun (or the turret it is standing on actually - not sure whats the english word), the wickan seat and the belts. The rest of the parts you can easily go without. Not bad addition, but definately not mandatory - its your choice. Otherwise the main downfall is that the engine is quite basic and there was a nasty step between the two fuselage halves that required some additional puttying and sanding. Build wonderfulyl otherwise :) I'm sure you will enjoy it
best regards,
Sasho

Hello Aviator and let's hope its a welcome to the Brisfit appreciation society.

Cimmerian I saw your concerns about having to hang the bottom wing. If this is a re-issue of the Eduard kit,  then it's reasonably straightforward and sturdy. Certainly more so than the Roden equivalent.

Bst wishes
Nigel

Hi guys,
thank you all for stopping by and all of your comments.

@Sasho: Thanks for your details about the PE set, I think I go for it, the seat is pretty basic, through Eduard's site it's not available, maybe Ebay …
@Nigel and Cimmerian: Yes, it's a re-issue of the Eduard kit (the sprues show Eduard), so I hope it will work with the wings. Anyway there are a lot of struts and the size compared to the Albie is quite different.
I started today with painting some parts of the cockpit and fuselage halves, pics will follow.

Thanks for that, I do like straightforward. I knew it was the Eduard re-issue and I like the Bristol Fighter even more. I guess I'll be taking the plunge soon as the wife seems to have decided I need it for Christmas. I can't bring myself to argue with her. ;D

Great choice of subject Aviator, it's so good to see another 1:48 scale being built and I look forward to seeing your first progress photos.

I'm really looking forward to this build, Ro.  The Biff is one of my all time favorite aircraft.  As far as I can recall, Eduard has never made a separate pe set for this kit.  However, Part of Poland has a set that was designed for the Roden kit.  http://www.jadarhobby.pl/part-s48133-bristol-f2b-fighter-pe-148-p-8367.html  I have it and it's seems to be okay.  It's easily adaptable to the Eduard kit.  If you only want a wicker seat and a Scarff ring, Lone Star Models produces a very fine resin wicker seat which I highly recommend.  Mike doesn't show them on his site, but if you send him an email, he'll make them for you at under $10 for a pair.  The Scarff rings can be acquired from Tom's Model Works or from Fred Hultberg of Fotocut.
Cheers,
Bud

@Bud: Thank you very much for these informations, now I understand why I couldn't find the PE set through Eduard's website. Instead I ordered the wicker seats from Mike West and he will send them. :D
And as if my stash is not full enough I also ordered a second F.2B (it's the one with no 1288, crocodile decals) which contains the mentioned PE set. Unfortunately I don't have much time at the moment for  for building …

Hi friends,
I got some work on the cockpit done. There are a lot of details and everything together it looks quite busy inside. I'm still waiting for the wicker seat from Lone Star Models (they are on their way). Eduard's seat together with the PE parts turned out okay and is also an option. Two things to mention, the control stick looks like post WWI (?), the seatbelts are four point straps (also post WWI?). In the end, after closing the fuselage halves only a little bit will be seen …
One question to the experts, what about that window in the cockpit floor, do all the F.2B's had them and what for?
Now some pics of the cockpit in progress.
greetings ro

Gorgeous looking interior, Ro!  The stick is correct for the war time Biff.  All period photos I've seen show this kind of control column.
Cheers,
Bud

A very nice start Ro. Looking at my own Brisfit you may end up being surprised just how much you can see into the cockpit when finished, not least because the gunner's position is so close behind. Besides, the skill with which you have put things together deserves to be shown off.

I'm no expert but I would have guessed that the glazed panel in the floor assists the pilot in landing.

Best wishes
Nigel
