Hi Adam;

The WNW Albie is a great model to build, apart from being very careful with the precise fit of the bulkheads, there are no real problems with it.

Cheers

Pete.

I love the Albatros and the scheme you have chosen is just gorgeous, will be watching this one all the way with great interest.

Off to a great start and looking forward to plenty more.

Excellent start Pete, I'm really looking forward to see what you do with this build, it is a great kit and in your hands you will turn it into a beautiful gem.

Your woodgrain treatment is really great Pete.  I'm wondering in the fuselage
pictures, the grey strips...are they to be painted or something to keep paint
out of the former slots.  I haven't dealt with WnW's close tolerances yet, but from
what I've read we really don't have much leeway.  Looking forward to your next
update.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Hi Ernie;

The grey strips are the slots that the bulkheads fit in to, as the fit is so precise I put some liquid mask in to the slots, painted the interior of the fusilage then cleaned the masking out of the slots, this then leaves the slots as bare grey plastic ready for the bulkheads to be fitted.

Cheers

Thanks for the explanation, Pete.  That's a good idea about the liquid mask.  I will certainly file that
away for future use!

Ernie :)

A quick question guys, does anybody know where I can get any decals for the 4 figure white ref. no. that goes round the front of  no. 1 cylinder?

Hi Pete:

The decal sheet for the Pfalz DXII has several of the numbers you are looking for.  You could probably order the sheet from WNW.  Check out my Pfalz DXII build in the built section.

It may have been on the Hannover sheet now that I think about it.  If you scope out the decals for the kits on the WNW web site you should be able see which sheet they are one and order it.

Best

You're off to a nice start Pete!

You missed snipping off the little buggers on the upper left side of the cockpit opening, I noticed because I made the same mistake :)

Spares from a Pfalz D.XII sheet? But check your references, the white numbers are kind of a D.IIIaü thing. You can find examples of earlier engines so marked, but the style seems different.

Hi Bo;

Which little buggers are you refering to?

Thanks for the eng ref numbers info.

Cheers

page 11 of the manual... not sure what the bumps are for... they aren't used on the D.Va kit either. Maybe supposed to be a lug for mounting an accessory altimeter in the yet-to-be-seen deluxe version?...

Pete, sorry late to the party but do you have a serial number for this machine? Or, failing that, a date when it was taken on? That might help you sort out which motor to build. D.IIIa's seemed to have been fitted to the last batch or so. Somewhere there is a table (WS Albatros Fighters maybe? -- I'll have to dig or Keith knows :) ) Otherwise D.III would be likely. D.Vs from the last batches were arriving at staffels in late fall (oct/nov?) 1917.

Cheers

DV motors = minefield.  ;D

IMHO without any other reference I'd be tempted to go for the 160 with upright airpump at the front. Likelyhood it arrived in the same batch with Rumeys & others that seem to sport the 160.

I've got similar issues with my D.V which I'm building(stalled) von Schliech's DV as to whether it had a forward mounted air pump or not. At least I knw this has a 160 of one sort or another.
