Pete, sorry late to the party but do you have a serial number for this machine? Or, failing that, a date when it was taken on? That might help you sort out which motor to build. D.IIIa's seemed to have been fitted to the last batch or so. Somewhere there is a table (WS Albatros Fighters maybe? -- I'll have to dig or Keith knows :) ) Otherwise D.III would be likely. D.Vs from the last batches were arriving at staffels in late fall (oct/nov?) 1917.

Cheers

Hi Bo and Keith;

According to Rowans ref material, Fritz Oppenhorst was with Jasta 5 from Dec 1917 until Aug 1918, so it is possible that he could have had the DIIIa motor fitted.  Although it seems that details of the aircrafts specific equipment are unknown.

Cheers

Pete.

In that case the D.IIIa motor is plausible at the very least. Go for it!

In fact I'd opted for the DIIIa from the beginning Bo, but I won't be putting a Ref no on the no 1 cylinder.

Next stage, installing the seat in to the cockpit bulkheads, some sanding was required as the Wood & Wire seat doesn't have a cut out to accept the base unit which fits across the side bearers.
