Hello All you WWI nuts out there...speaking of nuts...I got more done today!   

I got all the struts attached, the tails on, the wings on and all lined up and finally put on the landing gear and tail skid.  This model as a really interesting sit.  Kind of squat and the tilted interplane struts are interesting too.







Anyway, I got lots done this weekend and now things will likely slow down. 

Lots of touch up, details to add and of course all the rigging to go.  Can I get it done by Monday the 18th???  Stay tuned!!

Everyone,

First, thanks for all the great comments and suggestions.  Part of this build is to see if I could really do it in 2 weeks plus a bit and not turn our a piece of junk.  Looks ok for a March 18th finish so far!

Below is how she stands now.  All rigging (except for the wheel brake on top of the axle) and control rigging are complete.  Looks pretty darn cool.  I still need to touch up in places like the wheels, but she is looking good.






I had a question of the WWI boffins here, though.  Should the interplane struts be steal with wood fairings as I've done them, or should they just be metal in color?  I do think I should repaint the cabane struts to look like metal, but I'm unsure of the interplanes.  Any help would be appreciated.  I find documentation for both...albeit those are from artist's representations and other modelers!

Thanks for looking!  Next time, just the rear cockpit, radiator, top gun and touch up to go.  Such a pretty plane!

Okay now I have to ask - as per the real machine - Why do the starboard interplane struts have more of a forward rake/stagger? Is it something to do with engine torque?

Hi Steve,

I don't think they do...it's an illusion!  The really odd thing about the interplanes is that they splay wider on the bottom wing and toward the midline on the top wing.  That is...they are not perpendicular to the flying surfaces and go opposite of what you'd expect.

Have no idea why!!

Interesting. Now that I look again one of the pics has the port struts looking different - like you say it must be optical.
