Eduard 1/48 Sopwith Pup......
« on: February 04, 2025, 01:16:23 PM »
Sopwith Pup, N9899. Flown by Flt. Sub-Lt. Arnold J. Chadwick, "B" Flight, Number 4(N) Squadron, RNAS, April 1917.
Arnold J. Chadwick, 1893-1917, 11 victories.

Geezz......A frustrating build but it's finished and up on the shelf.
I did not add the carburetor intakes or the inspection panels on the wings, I'm moving on.

Build log here:    https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=14742.0

The bottom shot.

Many Pups seem to have a sort of engine turning on the aluminum cowling area. I tried replicating that but maybe a darker base color next time.

]

Now that it's done, I'm pleased with it.

I think it's a shame we don't have a modern tool of this iconic little Pup.  It would be the perfect segue for Airfix, with there side scan radar, to give us a new tool Pup.
Who knows, maybe they would give us a Junkers J.1 or a Rumpler  C.IV or a maybe even a once-and-for-all correct Gotha G.V. in 1/48 scale.

Anyway, a sweet little Pup after much coercion.

Allan, I love this small pup you created from that old tool box (the same I have and will build). I agree this little plane deserves some better, more contemporary, kit.

Beautiful build of a very basic kit.
Another silk purse from a sow's ear!
Nice work, Allan.

The end result is superb, great work on an oldie but (fundamentally) goodie. The overall build quality is excellent and the weathering is fantastic. It's dirty, but you have applied the weathering very effectively in the right places rather than just slapping it all over. Great job!

As commented above, an old kit which has been turned into a real gem. The weathering and finish is superb - many congratulations for not turning this into a shelf queen. It was really worth the effort.

The proverbial silk purse from a sow's ear. Very well done, Allan31! Your old school Eduard Pup is really beautiful.

Thanks one and all for the warm reception for the Pup. Always good to play for a receptive audience.
It almost became a shelf queen twice, once with the landing gear and I forget the other. But having nothing else at the time for the "shelf queen group build", I would just have to endure and finish it over there so....
Not sure what is next but the Eduard Hannover CL.IIIa is presently being fondled.
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick

Great work getting this one over the line Allan. 8)

I've always liked the Pup which is such an iconic aircraft with so many lovely schemes and you did well to battle through the flat spots of the build process and bring us such a lovely model (Incidentally I was chatting to a couple of other modellers at the weekends show and they agreed that most during most builds you reach a point where the model could be potentially shelved or binned - I'm so glad it's not just me!) ::)

Nice work on the cowling effect too. A small detail that adds to the overall effect

That little Pup turned out superbly, Allan. The weathering is exceptionally well done, you?ve mucked it up perfectly!
