This is excellent modelling. Great work on assembling those thin wings into a sturdy structure, and the fabric show through is going to look excellent.

Part 6.  Flying Surfaces

The flying surfaces have been over sprayed with a light coat of Vallejo aged white.

Here the tail surfaces have the rib masks removed after a light coating of aged white.
I will do the main wings later.

This is the final coating of aged white on the upper surfaces. After it dries, I?ll mask all the ribs again and paint a light mist of Tamiya clear smoke to highlight the rib tapes.

A lot of work to try and get that translucent look!

Thanks for looking in.

Tim

Wow, that is an amazing amount of ribs. Beautiful results as usual.
You really are pushing me closer and closer to that 1/72 scale rabbit hole....
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick

A lot of work but well worth it! The finished result is fantastic, well done.

Part 6.  Tail Feathers

Lots of progress this weekend. I finished masking and painting the eleven separate pieces that make up the tail rudders and elevators. Assembly was quite tricky and it?s not exactly straight, but close enough for me.

I had a near disaster with the starboard side Eisernes Creuz decal. I applied a gloss surface to adhere to and it sucked right down and wouldn?t budge!  Finally got most of it loose and into place. Had to hand paint some repair work because I couldn?t find a correct size replacement.
All the bracing support rods are brass rod cut to fit and CA glued in place.
I still need some support connecting rods on the rear tail upper and lower controls. Also need to rig the control cables before moving onto attaching the lower wing.

Thanks for looking in!
Tim

Superb work Tim, that is looking fantastic. I nearly bought this kit several times and seeing how much work it is, I'm glad I didn't! You are making a fine job of this.

It is surprising that this thing actually flew. It looks as heavy as hell.

Choroszy kits are not for the faint-hearted modelers, especially those larger and more complex ones. Your work on this is spectacular, to say the least. Looking forward to more progress.

Part 7. Play stupid games and win stupid prizes!

Well, I come home last Thursday afternoon and went to my modeling desk. I was attempting to add the last elevator/ rudder connecting rods when I let the model slip and nosedive into the tile floor! I heard the impact and undeniable skittering of parts across the room. In disbelief and shock I began to assess the damage.
I was surprised to find the fuselage relatively intact. The tail came apart but only one broken tip of the left tail fin where a brass reinforcement pin broke out.

Lost one control horn and it took a chip of paint with it.

The nose suffered a large chip of paint but didn?t break any resin. Surprisingly all the interior parts remained intact.

There was a small break in the fuselage seam in front of the pilots cockpit area. The rest of the seam held beautifully.

The nose panel was repainted with a base of Tamiya deck tan.

Here is the final repair work on the nose

I finished the tail section but forgot to take any pictures.
Hoping to get more progress on it next weekend.
Thanks for stopping in!

ARRRRRRGH!  :o

Done this myself on several occasions (you'd think I would learn) So glad to see that the damage wasn't too extensive and is already repaired. Looking forward to the next (hopefully not too exciting) update ;)

Oh dear, we've all been there. Very glad to see this didn't sabotage the build because I want to see this one completed.
