Beautiful work! I have an HGW etch set for the Albatros, but the Proper Plane parts look far better than those. Good to know for the future.

Hi all,
The fuselage is now closed up.
The kit supplied machine guns were replaced with the ‘Spandau’ 08/15 extended loading handle (14-32061) from 'Gaspatch'.
These needed to be modified to allow them to locate correctly in the fuselage front/rear gun mounts,

Those guns do offer an improvement over the PE and plastic from the kit.

I don't think I've commented on this one? Beautiful work Mike! I love the wood tones and the detail inside.

Superb work again Mike. I really like the Gaspatch guns. I’m going to have to try out the 1/72 offerings.

Hi all
This aircraft had what seems to be a mirror, flare pistol and flare rack located on the right side of the fuselage, just forward from the cockpit opening
The flare pistol appears to have been mounted on a supported tube, so that the pilot could load a flare, lock then fire the pistol (directed away to the rear right of the aircraft)
The breach of the pistol looks to be open, not closed and locked.
Possibly the pistol is of the 'Hebel M1894' type

To represent this I used a 'Wingnut Wings' flare pistol from my 'spares' and cut the barrel off and pinned it in position using 0.2 mm diameter rod
The mounting was made using a combination of 1.4 and 0.8 diameter tube with 0.4 mm diameter rod

Brilliant work on the flare pistol. After seeing your scratch work the original picture makes more sense now.

Hi Mike,

very beautiful detail work on your D.V.

I like it very much - I am an absolute fan of such fine details that are often only recognizable at second glance.
That's the salt in the soup.

But allow me a hint:
The first Albatros production lots did not yet have the wooden panel joints running transverse to the direction of flight under the engine (from the sheet metal of the nose to the front edge of the wooden wing root).
These were still installed longitudinally.
Unfortunately, I have no exact information about the factory number from which the longitudinal joints were changed to transverse joints.
The 2006/17 certainly belonged to the production batch of the longitudinal panels.
See picture of the immediate predecessor of the 2005/17

I think it would not be too late to fill the transverse joints and engrave the longitudinal joints on the model. In the picture below you can see how many panels there were and where the joints should be.

Unfortunately, Wingnut Wings did not include this small detail in their mold for the D.V.
Correctly, two hulls with different joint shapes should have been integrated into the D.V kit.
Or, as with their later kits, an “early” and a “late” version.  ::)
In the Albatros D.Va kit, transverse joints are correct.

Another eye-catching detail on the wings are the “Nicht auftreten” (Do not step on it) warnings for the mechanics.

Mike, what Bertl has posted is what I ineptly tried to ask earlier  :-[ I had to do this on My early DV build. It went Ok for Me so I am sure you will nail the process.

PS: From the WNW archive photos. If not Okay I will remove. Shows the panel lines I can see!

Hi Bertl and Rich,
I did look into your build Rich of the aircraft as I'd seen your query before.
My problem was that there is photographic evidence of my build, serial number 2006/17/
Although I searched it never occurred to me to look for similar production batch photographs.
Thankfully Bertl did and found serial number 2005/17.
That same batch aircraft clearly shows longitudinal, not transverse, underside panels.
It also seems to confirm that the batch was fitted with just the lower wing drag wires and did not include the drag wires for the upper wing, which later aircraft had.
So thanks guys, I'll modify my fuselage accordingly  ;),

Hi all,
Just a quick update as I work on the Phonix D.I as well.
The fuselage top green has been applied.
This was ‘Hataka’ (Orange line) Dark Moss Green (C246) with Light Green (C020) to a ratio of 50/50%.
Thinned with ’Mr. Colour’ Levelling Thinners 400 by arbout 10%.
Now onto the plywood covering,

Mike
