Nice looking cockpit. Fine progress! And encouraging to a purchase at a certain website from a far-off country... ;)

You've got a great looking cockpit going there Des. I particularly like the instrument panel. Is the seat identical to the one supplied in the Bristol Fighter kit? If so, I'll have to break out the grinder again to remove the extra plastic on the back of the caning.

Cheers,

Chris

Hello Des:

This is shaping up nicely and looking good to boot.  Thanks for the update.  I will be checking it out as I am thinking I will be seeing this under the "birthday tree" next week, and I too am planning on the Russian scheme.

Best

Thanks guys for your comments, all very much appreciated.

Chris - Wingnuts have improved their wicker seat, it no longer has the extra thickness of plastic at the back of the seat covering the crossed open weave section, so drilling it out was very easy as the plastic between the weave was only very thin, made life a lot easier.

Bo - the Tacho drive is a very small spring, it is 0.5mm in diameter and 20mm long, easy to fit and very flexible, also the correct colour.

Coming along beautifully Des. I may have to order this earlier then I planned, and following this build further may just lead to impulsive behavior in that regard!

I managed to get the cockpit all together tonight, and all the rigging and control cables are also fitted. Assembling the components for the cockpit proved a little frustrating, apart from holding the rear fuel tank and floor boards, I had to align the control column, the rudder bar, the instrument panel and the forward fuel tank all at the same time, and while doing this trying to keep all the rigging and control wires out of the way. It all eventually went together with everything fitting perfectly, the rigging was finished off after the cockpit was assembled. The whole lot was given a spray of Humbrol Satin clear. Seat belt still needs to be added.

Oh, oh . . . if you found it frustrating, I'm more than a little apprehensive about how I'll fare with it.  :-\

Brilliant work on the office, Des!  I'm a little disappointed to read that cockpit assembly is a bit tricky.  Like Chris, I hope I'm up to it.
Cheers,
Bud

Hello Des:

Looks good.  A little taken aback to read about your difficulties with the cockpit interior.  It looks complex and I am sure that is part of the problem.  To quote Julias Ceasar:  "Vini, Vidi, Vici", Looking forward to the next update.

Best
