DH.2 Scratchbuild completed
« on: August 29, 2022, 11:12:04 PM »
Hello all.  Here's my latest completion.  A DH.2 of 32 Sqn in the markings of Lionel Rees.
It is scratchbuilt in 1/144 scale, using styrene, acrylic, sterling silver and a little 18ct yellow gold for good measure (I'm a jeweller by trade, so why not?).
I started this one on Dec 31st and finished it on August 17.  Or Aug 25th... if you count the fact that I took these photos then realised I had yet to make a control stick   ::)

The excellent DH.2 builds by many other modellers here at ww1aircraftmodels.com were a priceless visual reference while making this.  So thank you all!  Here are some pics.

Good God William, how on earth did you manage to rig that in 1/144 scale. Not to mention the other details.

I heard that it all started when a bloke called Archie Duke shot an ostrich 'cause he was hungry!

What an amazing piece of work William, the detail for such a tiny model is beyond all logic and that bottle of Tamiya Cement says it all! The finish is exceptional for any scale, my sincere compliments on some really great modelling.
Cheers,
Lance

I just realised that this little gem is only 53 mm long with a span of 60 mm.

Mindboggling.....

I've run out of superlatives for your models, William.
Silent stupefaction!

Like the others I am lost for words. And built in such a short time too....

Any superlative I can think of would fall miserably short to express my admiration for this model (and the Fee).

Amazing.  The only way I could get a picture like that is to find a really big match head to lay next to my models!

Thank you everyone! That is very kind  :)
I’m glad it is completed and in such a relatively short time.  A funny thing happened during the last covid lockdown, and I received a chance to put together a book on the subject of scratch building WWI aircraft in 1/144 scale.  After a brief panic I realised I better up my game and boost my output to meet the deadline.  I haven’t got a title yet, but this one will be chapter four.  Next up is a pair of Nieuport 17s.  One French and the other an RFC machine. After that a Fokker D.VIII if things go well 🤞

I learned a lot from this one. I think my favourite detail is the 25 radiating scribe lines on the Lewis drum:)
