Eduards Pfalz D.III
« on: April 01, 2021, 07:32:52 AM »
With the Fokker almost done I feel like doing another quick build and it's been waaaay to long since I built a Pfalz D.III .  :)

Wow!  I thought the Fokker was a quick build.  I'm still trying to get details finished on my BE12!

This will be interesting.  I don't think I've ever seen a build of this kit.

Cheers,

Hugh

Nice choice! I have the D.IIIa on the bench and it's going together rather well.

A bit annoying that Eduard missed the pipes going to and from the radiator in the top wing though.
But nothing good references and a bit of scratch building can't sort.

they skipped those on the albatros d iii also (but not on the dv).  it seems like a strange omission as that seems such a large part of the plane's profile.

If I was dizzy before Alexis, I’m on the floor now  ???

One of my favourite aircraft though  ;D

Nice choice, Alexis! Some speedy building going on... but great subjects! ATB, Marc.

Thanks guys , glad to have you all tagging along on this one .

Hugh , you are correct on that not many builds of this kit have been seen . So I hope I don't mess it up !

Mark A , I have built the D.IIIa 7 times now with 4 more still in the stash in 48 scale , enjoy the build . It's a nice kit  :)

Guy , like I said be easier if you just sit ! ;)

Spent part of the morning removing parts from their trees for clean up when I notice on the tail section , Eduard has molded the tail wing root upside down !

Not something I really want to fix with this older plastic . It's hard to sand and is or can be brittle  :( ::) . I have read reviews of this kit and no one has mentioned this ????

Sorry to hear that Eduard made a mistake. Just sand it real carefully and it should be alright. If you think it's to brittle you can glue some styrene behind it to strengthen it.

That’s easy Alexis,

Just glue the tail plane upside down too - voilá - perfect fit!  ;D

Are you saying that the root curves towards the bottom of the aircraft? If not then it is correct to have an upsweep on the leading edge  for the DIII isn't it?

Since it looks like a butt joint ::) anyway couldn't you fabricate the part in 40 thou, sand off the offending bit and glue it on - easy being an arm chair builder......

Searching in the dim, dark recesses of my mind Alexis, I think Eduard are correct. The tailplane was like that - there was a story that the Pfalz was a real favourite of balloon - busters, and the usual tactic was a screaming dive from altitude to avoid the flak, and the Pflaz was a good "diver", and then the inverted tailplane aerofoil helped pull it out of the dive at low level... Now I can simply not remember where I read all this, let me peruse the books! Regards, Marc.
