Sopwith Triplane "Black Maria", Eduard 1/48

My fifth model of 2020 is a important piece of aviation history: the Sopwith Triplane as flown by Raymond Collishaw in the Black Flight.
It is in scale 1/48 and based on the Eduard kit. Some kit parts are replaced by wood and metal e.g. airscrew, tail skid and cockpit parts. Beside the kit PE I used PE from the company Parts, the Clerget engine from Small Stuff, the seat belts are made by HGW and the terminals for the RAF wire rigging is from Gaspatch.
The paints are from Mr.Paint, especially the nice PC12 needs to be mentioned, Alclad, Gunze and oil paints for the weathering.
Without the great support of our forum members the project would not have been possible - Thank you very much!

I really like the final look of the model ...

And I tried a little experiment :)

My be you know that picture of Collishaw's Triplane:

My imitation:

And again in color:

For macro shots of all those internal details you should browse through the build report:

I will try to do some outdoor shots ...

Thanks for watching!

Cheers,
Frank

A fine looking beast, Frank.  If there are any errors, they are not obvious, but I am not very familiar with Sopwith Tripes.  Your detail work really sets your builds apart.

looks great.  I like the very subtle streaking/weathering on the under side.

As usual Frank, a magnificent model! The very brownish PC.12 color looks very good, the detail is spectacular, and the overall effect most impressive, great modelling!

Beautiful Frank,

I think your best yet. It really does look like a Wingnuts kit - but better!

I love your multi media approach to modelling.

All of your models have something to teach the rest of us Frank. Your use of different materials demonstrate a level of skill which turn me green with envy.

That is a truly magnificent model from a master modeller.

Stephen.

Thank you Ken, Paul, Lance, Guy , PrzemoL, Ian, Terri, Rick, Gary, Early Bird Fan and Stephen! Your feedback made my day!

The very brownish PC.12 color looks very good
I like the real color even more, compared to the pictures. It is more dark and less on the red side, my cam seems to modify red somehow.

I think your best yet.

Must say that this has to be your best yet
Wow, again? I thought that would not be possible. Ok, I tried to take advantage of the new electronic cutting tool for masking. May be this helped.
The next one must then be able to fly? :o

Cheers,
Frank

Thank you Bob!
I looked lately at your interpretation in the group build and I must say I like the black tailplane too. But it was to late, it was already painted. On the other hand I could use a black C below, which is also nice.

Cheers,
Frank
