Basic wood base is done can I can start the graining effect now . I used two different shades between the different sized panels. Tamiya Lacquer paints Wooden deck tan and light sand . Flying surfaces are ready for lots of masking !

Actually had some bench time this evening so I started with the graining effect on the fuselage and struts . For the fuselage I used Vallejo wood grain effect dragged and dry brushed across the surface in one direction . This dries very fast so up next was the pencil crayons starting with med to light to dark . The struts just got a wipe with a moisten brush using Vallejo New Wood .

  And I just remembered , still have the wheels and tail skid ! forgot about those items .

Thanks Rick , I must admit the I was nervous doing this . Doing struts and cockpit decals is one thing . First time for me doing the whole fuselage . Hoping that the clear coating goes well and it all blends together , but I have some shading to do first with Tamiya smoke .

The wood grain on the fuselage looks very good - the more so considering it is a first attempt at such a large area. This model is going to be another of your winners Terri.

I like that approach to wood grain Terri, looks very realistic and a lot less messy than oil paints. Reckon I need to give that a try.

Thank-you Stephen and Richie . Over the pass few days I have been doing some more painting and the clear coating is done , back to masking that for the metal parts . Unmasking this today so fingers are crossed that it all turned out okay . Will have pic's up later .

Richie , I have been playing around with pencil crayons for some time now and still learning what can be achived by them . I have never had luck using oils for anything modeling related and it's messy . I use a mixture of soft and hard for different blending effects using my finger or q-tip . Give it try on a junk build or scrap plastic and experiment and have fun !
