There's some really spectacular detail in these engines Prze, I particularly like the Rolls Royce Falcon. The wiring components are beautifully represented and the detail is exceptional, just lovely work!

Lance

Wow, simply Wow! PrzemoL, your engines are fantastic! Nicely build and painted. Your take a good advantage of the big scale.
The great WNW kits in a hand of such a master - great results! I hope you have enough kits in the stash for the next years.

Cheers,
Frank

My Amigo Ed Boll has asked Me to Post these photos of his 1/28th scale scratch built engine which will go in his Fokker DVII. I am sure he will fill in the details:

That's a nice one. Thanks for posting it, RAGIII, and pass on my complements.

Got a new one.

1/32 Taurus Oberursel U.0 converted into a Gnome Lambda.  A simple conversion - remove six bolts from one front plate and put two on the other front plate.

Lukaz is working on a new Gnome Lambda right now, but I couldn't wait!

This engine has some extremely fragile and extremely small parts.  I could not make all the wire springs on the back of the cylinder head properly, but hopefully the rest of the eye candy will divert attention!?

Thanks, PrzemoL.  You've got some very nice engines here yourself.  I like the placards you have used.

Just caught up on these. What a superb collection of engines. Respect guys.
I'm working on the engine of an Alb D.III at present and I keep test fitting to see what will be hidden and therefore not need detailing! How can you bear to hide so much of these masterpieces away from sight?
Aspirational stuff.

Hi. As for me I tend to expose the detailed engines as much as possible. As you can see above RR Falcon is completely open in my Biff, RR Eagles in Felixstowe have no cowlings by definition, my three Taurus rotaries are not covered either - Monosoupape naturally in DH.2 whereas Bentley in Snipe and Clerget in Camel have the cowlings removed. I do not put the metal cowlings on German inline engines, either. Some years ago I have built my only WNW Albatros D.V and the engine over the wooden bearers is completely visible - there are lots of details to be added there, usually omitted in the built Albies - fuel installation, controls for carburetters and spark advance on magnetos... 😉

One reason for starting this thread was to be able to see engine details before hiding them away under a cowling, and to see what some of the after-market engines look like.

Posting another 1/32 Vector Gnome Monosaupape 9, finished differently from my previous one.  This one is 'OOB'.

Alclad paint was used on this one, giving a smoother finish.  Weathered with pastel chalks.  Pushrods are 0.020" steel wire.

So, I had this leftover Roden Oberursel Ur.ii from the Jacobs triplane build and thought I would dress it up some to see what I could do with it.  The front and back half of the engine did not exactly matchup, but I pressed on anyway.  This one will have the silver colored intake pipes instead of the copper ones.

I discovered the molded crankcase is not exactly correct for either an Oberursel or a Le Rhone.  The Oberursel has what looks like a replaceable prop shaft on the front that is bolted on and the Le Rhone has no bolts around the prop shaft.

I made a ring on the lathe and attached some simulated photoetched bolts on the ring and on the outer edges of the crankcase.

Then, turning to the back, I replaced the pushrods with steel wire and added a PE part to the valve actuator arm, to depict the open ball bearing there.

Then started painting with a black base, which didn't seem necessary later, and sprayed with Alclad aluminum with a touch of pale gold.  Then weathered with a dark wash and pastels.

I think it turned out well, almost as good as a good aftermarket resin piece.

Now, to find something to put this into...
