Like others have stated, outstanding wood effect.  Simply stunning.

Thanks everyone for the kind remarks!

Sweet Gary . I have seen this method in the Air Modellers Guide To WNW kit's vol 1 . Awesome book ! Looking forward on seeing how this turns out .
Terri

Yes Terri - I have that book and it was the build of the Roland D.VIa that I saw that technique used to good effect. Both Volumes of the Air Modeller's Guide to Wingnut Wings kits are extremely good references and I keep them by my model bench at all times  ;)

Cheers,
Gary

Very nice paint work so far!
That masking strips for wood are a very good idea, I will try this one day in 1/48.

Cheers,
Frank

Thanks everyone for your encouragement as I try and get the Roland done!

I've added the lower wing, which has been draped with Aviattic 4-colour faded lozenge decal. I've also added the engine cowlings - these were a difficult fit and needed a fair bit of thinning down to look right. No wonder the instructions recommends leaving them off. The spring-hasps that fastened the front to the side cowlings were made with thin copper wire wrapped around a #80 drill bit.

Cheers,
Gary

Gary,
With the addition of the painted cowlings, fittings, and the markings the wood finish really becomes more exceptional, such beautiful work! How about those nail lines, a rotary wheel tool? I haven't checked my Kit however I'd speculate that going "plank to plank" would be difficult given the protrusion of the edges.

Lance

A question, Gary.  What did you use as a guide for the nail lines? Or did you not use any guide and just freehand it?

Hello Ken and Lance - those nail marks are part of the kit. WnW created the tiny depressions quite nicely. I just enhanced them with a touch of thinned oil paint. Lance - you are correct about the lines traversing the woodwork, they get missed as they go over the edge. I did add my own on the top of the fuselage to have some continuation where the joint was sealed.
Cheers,
Gary

I completely missed the inclusion of the nails in the Kit molding, I must take another look. Wingnut Wings never fails to surprise, they certainly add a lot to the finished effect.

That's utterly gorgeous, great job!

The standard of modelling on this site really is tremendous. I'm slightly embarrassed showing my cack-handed fumblings!

I painted up a couple of Model Cellar figures to display with the Roland using Vallejo acrylics.
