Special Hobby 1/48 Spad VII In Captured Markings
« on: June 11, 2019, 01:52:38 AM »
Hi all,
Long, long, long, long time no post.  A lot going on in the past few years, and little time for modeling.  I have been lurking, however, and enjoying the beautiful builds when I can find time. I am working my way back into things starting with the lovely Special Hobby Spad.  It will be finished in the captured markings seen in the photo of it behind Kraut's Fokker at Jasta 4' with the "Gute Leute" on the upper wing and the remaining SPA62 coq on the fuselage.  The machine was possibly flown by Udet.

I am adopting what I learned from Antonio's fantastic build a while back.  I began by removing the extra access plates on the fuselage sides and reinstating the rib lines with Milliput.  Also the interior is done with just a few additions.

Looks great buttoned up. I built one of these once and it looks like yours required about the same amount of filler as mine.

Thanks, Rick. It's mostly a pretty good fit.

Also working on making decals.  The coq I found online and Rick, were you the one kind enough to send me the scan of the old Americal sheet with the "Gute Leute"?

If me it was a while ago. I did have the sheet at one time but sold it several years back  ;D

Slow progress, the fuselage required a lot of filling and sanding and repriming.  Now just about ready for color.  I sprayed the wings with Vallejo pale sand.  I think it needs a few drops of yellow.  It didn't adhere that well as you can see from the sanding scrapes.

Thanks, Terri and Rick!
Spads: so many ribs!  Shaded the undersides of the wings. I'll give them a light overcoat with the base color to even them out.
