Excellent Drew! The amount of roundel showing through on the lower wing is perfect, IMHO.

Seems I'm late for the show on this little beauty, Drew!  Every aspect of this build is perfect, from your color choices to the under wing roundels showing through!  Can't wait to see what comes next!
Cheers,
Bud

Back to work on this with more decaling.  I'm liking the effect.  Still some wrinkling on the lower wing decals I am working out with decal softener.

Hi!
Really great work until now! I think that you have choose the right colors for this SPAD.
Only a doubt: in the Albin Denis website about French Escadrilles there is the photo that you used as inspiration, it seems that the "Gute Leute" was written only on upper wings and no white field under the crosses. Maybe you have a better photo that I didn't see yet?
More compliments!
Roberto

Thank you, Roberto.
The photo I used is in Greg VanWyngarden's "Richthofen's Circus," but I suspect it is the same one you reference.  It's behind Kraut's Fokker D.Vii in the photo.  It's really hard to make out the cross fields, but I am also going by Dr. Merrill's comments in the Americal decal brochure and all the other captured allied machines I've seen. The cockades must have been painted over and white is the logical choice.  It's possible the fuselage crosses had no background but I don't know if this machine originally had a number there and it makes sense to use a white background for consistency. As far as I know there is no photo of the underside but other machines had the "Gute Leute" on the lower wings to identify the machines to ground troops and lower flying planes.

Hi!
I want to say a big "SORRY" because I confused the upper with the lower faces of the lower wings!
That's why I had doubts about the "Gute Leute". I apologize for my mistake.
I will follow your fantastic work!
Roberto
