Caudron G.4 Italian markings
« on: April 22, 2019, 01:55:10 AM »
Hello everyone! I’m working on Copper State’s Caudron G.4, and I’d like to put it in Italian markings. However, I’m not finding much material to reference these. I have the Windsock Datafile for it and the G.3 so I have a rough idea of what to go for, just curious if there’s any hidden info out there anywhere. Thanks!

Italian G.4 had no roundels
Lower wings were painted insignia green (right underwing) and red (left underwing)

the rudder had the tri-color

The main difference in italian Caudrons was the gun mount (and the gun itself). If I find a good picture I will post it. Also an overwing gun was quite common. I will follow with interest, as I have the same model kit and it was intended to be made as an italian aeroplane.
Ciao

Thank you both! The Datafile has a couple good pictures of the guns. I’m thinking of taking some artistic license and painting the engine cowlings to match the underwing colors, as well as the outside wheel covers. The rest will be CDL of course.

the front one looks like FIAT Mod. 1914 tipo Aviazione,
and if I can see two barrels well, the gun on wing seems to be Villar Perosa M15

but maybe there will be someone who knows more about it, I am not an expert in this field...

I just posted a link to the Fiat Reveilli machine gun manual in the reference library weapons section. Scroll down past all the text to see  photographs and drawings.

The manual for the Villar Perosa M15 and other early guns can be seen on the forgottenweapons.com website under the "original manuals" section. Send an email to Costas at Gaspatch Models. Maybe he will produce the Fiat Reveilli and Villar Perosa.

Just received an email response from Costas who is the owner of Gaspatch Models. He said that these two types of Italian machine guns are already in the design stage.

Does anyone know whether the Italian Caudrons used the French blue fittings and rigging wires their French counterparts used?
