COMPLETED - 1/48 Albatros DVa
« on: February 18, 2019, 06:00:37 PM »
Hi all - here's what i'll be building. A few years ago I picked up this Eduard kit on the cheap as a number of bits and pieces were off the sprues and a bit beat up. I've had an idea for a little diorama for this one for quite some time, so I think i'll finally have a go at it.... wish me luck..!

Knowing your skills I am sure no luck will be involved. Just Master Modeling!

A very very basic mock-up of what i'll probably do with this one.

Pretty basic idea - aircraft (with suitable battle damage) forced landing during a dogfight, ends up nose down in a stream. Thinking of calling it something like "The Vanquished" or "You win this time!" or some such... all ideas on how I could put something like this together (or any witty or pithy titles) are welcome...!

I'm looking forward to trying my hand at modelling some terrain and some water effects.

Cheers,

BC

Thanks everyone!

Xan - the concept isn't based off a photograph, but I got the idea many moons ago when I saw Stan Stokes' painting "Gotcha":

I've chosen a different aircraft (I am thinking an Albatros painted in markings from mid / late 1918, when they were very much outclassed), a different angle into the water (slightly more dramatic), and a different pilot (to help tell the story), but the basic concept is there in the painting.

There's still every chance at this point that i'll stuff this one up - I've not tried terrain like this before so I am doing a bit of reading to work out how to do it best... i've just spent a small fortune this weekend at my local hobby store buying model railroad supplies as well as various other things, so before I take the concept much further i'll see how well the terrain work goes.

Cheers!

It’s a great concept Brad,

Makes me want to blatantly copy and have a go myself!
