Very nice start and useful modelling tips: Thank you for sharing.
About the buttons, if this was intended as a school aeroplane these may be for application of a curtain-screen for blind instrument flying practice, just a guess.
Ciao

Thanks Giuseppe, I think you may be right.

There are several pics in the WS Datafile the show the "buttons"...so good job WNW for catching this small detail. Here is a shot from the net showing the buttons on the padding.

With this sitting right with me now, I finished the scratch work as well as rescribed missing or washed out lines on the padding itself. Once the new buttons dry I can sand them down.

The buttons are a nice detail for sure. Something missed by many kit manufacturers! You are making great progress.

Thanks Monty,

Not much progress, but I did lay down a pleasing wood tone. Its a mixture of Tamiya Orange, Sand, Flat Brown and JGSD Brown.

Yes, it actually is a pleasant wood tone  :)
Very nice and careful progress so far (I guess you`d get a heart attack if you`d see my chaotic working place).
Best regards

I finally took the plunge and tried some hand graining with a chiseled brush. I'm no David Parker, but I'm reasonably happy with the results.

The first strokes are the scariest!

After darkening the finish with a veil of brown I applied the orange/ yellow "stain" and ended up with this.

Of course the camera is not to flattering in closeup, but when the fuse is closed it really looks good.

Beautiful, simply beautiful!

Did you use oils for the grain?
