After two days working with the Uschi line, I decided...I don't like it.
It's probably fantastic, but not for me....not with 1/48 anyway.
The line is so thin and soft...I find it a nightmare to thread it through the brass tubes.

So, I removed the lines I did already, replaced some eyelets clogged with CA glue and make a fresh start.
I now ordered the 0.12mm Maxima Chameleon fishing line Bob v B. is using. Will take at least a week to get here. :-\

While waiting I can do some other jobs still to be done. Like painting the backside of the prop, a windscreen and continue with the undercarriage.

Also making up my mind about the next build.
I'm running out of eyelets and tubes, so maybe the Eduard 1/48 D.VII(AOW) or Roland C.II. Might as well get more eyelets/tubes and do an Albi D.III or C.III.
Dunno yet.  ::)

Looking forward to round two ...

For 48 scale rigging I use smoke invisible thread . Have you tried this before ? Pick my up at the dollar store many , many years ago . Will last me more then a life time .

Which one do you use?
There are multiple sizes, may be yours is a very fine for 1/72?
I use it for some time, but sadly I don't know which size it is. I lost the label on the package and have now only the metal drum.
I hope, the drum is never empty, otherwise I don't know, which one to order :-\

Frank

I can understand your experience. It's like the end of the line you're working with has a will of its own and it's definately not the same will as mine. Better luck next time!

This! ::)

For 1/48 I have the "fine"...and that it certainly is! It's barely visible!
Will look great on a 1/350 scale battleship I guess.  ;D

More soonish, thanks guys and gal.

With the rigging break, I had time to make the undercarriage.

Replaced the kits' "secondary axle" with brass tube....slightly longer and through the struts.
Made the ropes and discs/washers on the axle from Evergreen.
All as seen on photo's by James Fahey (Jamo) of the NZ D.II replica plane.

The much nicer resin after market wheels...no clue where they're from. Got a whole bunch of them many years ago.

Test fit....fits nicely. Pinning the struts is a must I think, not something Eduard put much effort into. :-\
Before painting, I still need to sand the ropes on the right, but the glue must cure before I can do that.

More soon, but not much to do while waiting for the rigging line. Grumpf!

Great additions you are doing here Robin, the undercarriage is most impressive. You'll like the Maxima Chamelion line, I've used it for years on 1:32 and believe it will suit 1:48 Scale just as well. Like you I use Bob's Buckles with it and it's a great (and easy to work with) combination. Great Build and I'm enjoying your progress updates. :)
Cheers,
Lance

Hi Robin,
I like the way you tackled the wood panelling, but the thing that caught my eye the most is your prop. It looks superb. Please share your method when you find time.

Talking of Maxima fishing line, you may want to grab some Maxima 1.5lb and 1lb breaking strain. They will both serve you well for 48th subjects and they also work well for control rigging in 32nd.  The 1.5lb doubles through the tube like a knife through butter. Well worth adding to your rigging stash!

Looking forward to seeing more updates.
Cheers,
Bob

Thanks guys  :)

Still waiting for the Maxima line....hopefully next week.

Finished landing gear photo's...

I think the extra work was worth it. Also made the construction sturdy...that's a nice bonus.

The prop...

Hand painted with acrylics, a wash and varnish.

But...I had some help from this,,,,

My prop painting tool for dummies. 8)
I think I made it about 7 years ago....still proud of my invention. :)

Anything but a dummy  :o
Great idea!

Thanks for sharing.

If you would like me to send you some 1.5lb Maxima, just let me know. Happy to help.

Cheers,
