Robin,

I just went through this whole thread step by step, and I need to thank you for sharing so many great techniques. I'm intrigued by your pinning of the struts. How small of a drill do you use for this, and are you using brass wire for your pins or something more maleable?

I want to try this for the janky looking struts that are on Eduard's Fokker D.viii

Thanks,
The struts I pinned were beefy enough for a 0,4 mm drill and matching brass rod.
The struts on my Fokker D.VII are really too thin for drilling and pinning  I think. Yours are probably that thin also.
I've seen people make new struts from flattened brass tubes (Albion Alloys) with brass or nickel silver rods inserted.
Not done that myself yet, but it seems not overly difficult.

Robin :)

Beautiful build, Robin.
Your rigging looks like it was strung by a past master - you learn QUICK!

Question. I'm liking Camo paint job. Which brand of thinner did you use for the paint? And did you use retarder?
Whenever I spray Valejo paint I get tip dry and clogging. Clearly, I'm doing something drastically wrong  ::)

Cheers!

On my Fokker D.VII I used 0.3mm brass pins, works fine.

And,
yesterday a nice little package arrived, containing this Eduard Profipack D.II kit ;)
So with the Gavia D.I I can build a bigger range of Albatros types (if I live long enough to build my stash ::) )

Cheers,
Frank

I only use the Vallejo Airbrush Thinner.
Very thin mixture, minimal pressure and minimal amount of paint (trigger). Only recently "seen the light" myself.
Took me a while.  ;D

Frank, you're right I need new good quality 0,3 mm drill bits...the ones I have lost their edge.
The Gavia is the same kit as Eduard :-\
I have the Gavia W.4 and D.I....they're also Eduard clones.

Not completely - there is an additional sprue with new struts. The inner inverted V-struts are interesting.
And new decals of course.

Yeah, I have not understand the business relationship. Same boxes, same moulds but colorful manuals.
May be intended as luxury brand?
At least the W.4 mould seems to be lost since the Gavia release. The Gavia Pfalz E.I injection moulds appeared again at Special Hobby in 2016 :D

Cheers,
Frank

For a first attempt at rigging you have done exceptionally well. I can see that in future your model builds are going to be a must to follow.

Stephen.
