Special Hobby Wildebeest 1/72 Finished
« on: December 02, 2018, 02:33:52 AM »
Afternoon,

So I’ve actually finished the Beest after a stuttering start! Many thanks to all that chipped in on the build. I honestly don’t think I would have finished it without the forum’s help. Special thanks to Frank for his patented struts@bughunter! They’ve transformed my skills repertoire.

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever learnt so much on a single build. It’s definitely good to step outside of your comfort zone once in a while and it’s opened up a wealth of kits that I can now build with a bit more confidence.

It’s a little gem of a kit despite some failings - the cabane struts were way too long. The internal glazing’s fit is a bit suspect (I used a glazing medium). On the plus side - the decal sheet and photo etch were excellent. Just imagine this kit in 1/32!

Anyway, thanks again....

Truly stunning Wildebeest, Guy!  Looks more like 1/32 scale.  Wonderful paint job.  I love these interwar schemes.

As for other 1/72 scale kits, I've been sorely tempted by Choroszy Modelbud kits.  Some really unique WWI types that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Cheers,
Bud

Ah thanks Bud,

Will have a look. Any others? Airfix, Roden?

Guy

Ps sorry I missed you at Telford. I did ask after you on the CSM stand.

Sorry I missed you, too, Guy.  We'll be back in a couple years, though.
As for other 1/72 scale kits, since, up until my first WNW kit, I've been strictly a 1/48 builder, I'm not really familiar with the others.  I've heard good and bad about Airfix, Roden and Revell, but have no first hand experience.  I only know, through my experience with Karaya, that the Choroszy kits are nicely detailed and there is an excellent selection of WWI types.  I think Przemo and a few others would have much more knowledge of 1/72 scale kits than I.
Cheers,
Bud

Thanks Bud, Dave & Manni,

Praise indeed from master builders!

I did stumble across a beautifully finished Roden 1/72 Bristol Fighter on the net - only to find it was by Prze!
