Perhaps the Strangest Model Kit Ever...
« on: April 27, 2024, 12:37:58 PM »
Don't get me wrong, I love Japan and all things Japanese (except nattō, that fermented soybean paste...who decided that was a good idea?), but when I saw this kit I really had to stop and reflect a moment or two...

A 1:1 cup of ramen? There are three separate warning labels not to pour boiling water in and eat it.

However, quirky as it is, I have to say I love Bandai's little sanding sticks  :D

I saw the thread title and said to myself "Whatever it is, it can't possibly be stranger than that full-scale Cup Noodle kit"  ;D

Zac, that's hilarious! Great minds think alike, I guess ;D

I really don't know why I'm surprised, given that you can see ultra-realistic 1:1 model food in just about every restaurant window in Japan.

Don't forget to think about weathering and ageing when painting the noodles  8)

The overall dimensions in length are good but the span is about 2mm too short. They have captured the overall tapering shape but it doesn't quite taper correctly at the base like the real subject. Colour call outs are all wrong, font on the container and the amount of corn isn't quite right compared to contemporary references. We don't even get an option for flavour sachets. Such a disappointment, I really was hoping for the definitive cup noodle kit. Hopefully one day a competent manufacturer will do this subject real justice.
