1/48 Eduard Sopwith Pup
« on: July 13, 2018, 11:55:44 AM »
Here are some photos of my just finished 1/48 Sopwith Pup from the old (1995) Eduard kit, a pretty basic kit. The model needs a lot of corrections to get an accurate replica, is somebody is interested I can post a list.

The model depicts a Whitehead built Pup from 66th Squadron flown by 2Lt. W. A. Pritt during 1917.

I only used some of the main plastic parts scratchbuilding (interior, tail unit, landing gear, cowling, propeller,) and replacing others with aftermarket products like the Vector engine (the exhaust were replaced with a resin copy of the Dragon Le Rhone). The Lewis gun came from a Roden Kit and the Vickers was modified from a Dragon's Spad XIII.

I painted the model with Model Master enamels and for the weathering, I used oils and acrylic Vallejo colors for the washes. All the markings were painted.

Hope you like it!

That is super. The markings are just like transfers and I would never have guessed that they were painted unless you had told us. That looks more like a WNW kit in a larger scale than 1/48.

Stephen.

Thanks, guys. I really appreciate your comments.  :D

It certainly took me much more time I expected but I am satisfied with the results.

Here is a photo of the masking process:

I decided to paint the markings because I thought that the blue used for the nose and wheels was (most probably) the same used for the cockades. The matching of the painted blue vs the decal blue was quite difficult to achieve.

Really great build! Very thoughtful done, so you converted a old kit into a gem.
And I know the effort, because I build that old kit too and showed it here.

Cheers,
Frank
