Elusive Jasta 52 colours
« on: May 03, 2018, 10:10:22 AM »
I have been trying to find information, and more specifically photos, of Jasta 52 Pfalz D.IIIas.

All I know from written accounts is that they were dark coloured. One photo is in Centenary Datatfile 174, Pfalz D.IIIa at War!, vol 2, by Greg Van Wyngarden. on page 1. It's a crashed machine and shows intact only the tailplane, which appears to have dark fin and horizontal tailplane top surfaces, with a white rudder with an elongated cross, similar in proportion to the Christian cross.

Jasta 52 was one of the few units that performed well in the Pfalz D.IIIa, especially while it was under the command of Paul Billik. I have seen photos Billik's famous black Albatros D.V at Jasta 12 and have read that he took the black schemes idea to Jasta 52.

Any other photos out there?

Cheers
