I have been working on the tail. I tried two types of turnbuckle. Up top, I used stretched earbud shaft and then painted gunmetal and brass. Below I used the Des Delatore method of brass tube. I'm hesitant to overdo it with the tube, as it tends to be a good deal thicker than the rigging lines, and just sort of looks like it's dangling there. In this instance I thickened the line with some silver paint.

Pretty crude in comparison to what some of y'all are doing, but I think I'm happy with it.

Still need to add detail to the skid, flat coat the tail, and then add some kind of filter to tie in the brown scuff marks. These were supposed to represent exposed wood, but look more like dirt. Oh well.

This is a really super Albatros. Got to agree with Rick the markings are most striking. Great odel in the making here.

I wish!

Remember, that I built the fuselage 5 years ago. Just the wings in the last few weeks.

But now that you mention it, I think I average about a model a month. Except armor kits - which generally take me months to finish.

Guys, thanks for the comments.

I started working on the engine. I've never been very good at engines, and this one is no exception. I'm going to be closing it up, so not much will be seen, but it seems a bit of a waste. Nevertheless, good metallic finishes continue to elude me.

there are still some bits to add, but I'm not going to bother with ignition wires. Not on this one.

I will grease things up though. I'm thinking of using actual automotive grease. hm...

I think I'm happy with how the engine turned out.

Next up: the guns. I'm totally anxious about the PE cooling jackets. I'm not good with PE, and I've never successfully rolled PE.

I don't have a soldering kit, either. Is one necessary to fuse the cylinder?

nope. But do anneal the PE before trying to roll it. Don't get it red hot -- that will ruin it. just pass it quickly back and forth through a clean flame until it turns slightly blue.

Thanks, guys.

Any advice on how to mount the guns? I'm assuming the ammo feed slot on the side attaches to the curvy bit, and the downward projecting bit is supposed to fit into the notched strut thingy behind the fuel tank?

I suppose maybe that is how it should be, but that isn't really working out for me. Is there a trick here? Is it best to glue the gun to one bit and not the other?

I'd greatly appreciate any advice before I move forward.

Also; is it better to fit the cooling jackets before or after mounting the guns?

For now, I've been test fitting only with the plastic guns.
