Pfalz D.XII (WNW, 1/32)
« on: October 10, 2012, 06:41:30 AM »
I am going to build one of Jasta 77b early D.XIIs but not 1394/18 with the swastika, featured among the colour schemes suggested by WNW. I will rather build 1346/18 wearing similar livery but featuring large openings in the side engine panels intended to improve cooling. This aircraft can be seen in two photos (Osprey Pfalz Aces and the new Winsock Datafile).
For the moment the cockpit is finished. It was mostly built from the kit parts, except for: rudder bar feet straps from alu foil, 5 small and one bigger cock levers on the panels from wire sections and spare PE frets, two fuel lines from the floor tank to the fuel selector board made of tin wire, control lines from the stick and the bar and the machine guns control cables - these from the 0.12 mm fishing line, which I will later use for rigging, too.

Excellent start, Prez.  The cockpit looks fantastic, up to your usual superb standards.
Cheers,
Bud

I'm keeping my eye on you, young man!  ;)
Nice work thus far!

Looking forward to cracking the Pfalz D.XII box as soon as I am settled into my new home. Hopefully in the next 2 to 3 weeks, but we all know how house moving goes.... painfully!

Keep the updates flowing, Prze!

Cheers,
Bob

Thanks.

Przemek I always know you as 1:72 scale modeler.
I only from time to time visits Modelarstwo redukcyjne, and I passed up this treads.  :-\
Now during long autumns evenings  I will read all yours treads.  :D it will be good lessons how to build kits in so big scale.

Przemek I always know you as 1:72 scale modeler.

I was one for a long time. But two years ago I got a gift - Roden's Spad, and so I am slowly entering 32nd scale domain.

Thank you, Szymon. I agree, WNW are best, but I will always respect Roden's Spad VII. It was indeed a pleasure to build it.

Thank you, xmald!

A small report from the work on the engine.
The basic parts are painted, decalled and ready for assembly. At the left there are Taurus models replacement valve springs and rockers as well as the spark plugs. There is also a spare exhaust from FE2b which I am going to use as a donor of nuts for intake manifold connection to the cylinders.

I also plan to add electric wires and plumbing to the air pump.

Some progress in the assembly of the engine. Additions and modifications include: scratch built base for the generator on the left hand side, valve springs and rockers (Taurus), spark plugs (Taurus) and nuts on the intakes to the cylinders (canibalised from spare exhaust manifold of FE2b).

Now it is time for electric wires. I plan to make them from thin copper wire.
And I have a question: were they really yellow in colour as per photos of restored D.IIIau presented in the WNW instruction book?
