Fokker E.V - S. Stec early (1/72, Arma Hobby)
« on: December 29, 2017, 09:41:11 AM »
The build of NT.2b is going slowly with many technological breaks and in the meantime Santa Claus in the person of my beloved wife brought me this brand-new little kit. So these two factors made me start this build in parallel, as I suppose this one will build relatively easily and quickly into a nice model.

The kit contents and colour options are thoroughly presented in the manufacturer website so I will skip this part. I will only say, the kit is very fine in my opinion, very well detailed as for this small scale. Decals, especially those with losenge, are more than acceptable. On the down side one has to mention the omnipresent flash, especially annoying at delicate parts for the interior like the fuselage truss bits. However, with some patience and delicate sanding it can be removed to unearth the otherwise nicely designed elements.

I have decided to build the first kit option - the very first fighter aircraft in the Polish aviation history, denoted with 001 numeral at itssides, delivered to 7th Fighter Squadron in Lwow in the spring of 1919, well before it became the American-volunteer-manned unit, and even before its pioneer pilot - Stefan Stec, the author of Polish checkboard national insignia, had his personal S-emblem painted on it.

The interior of the cockpit is well detailed, with decals for linen and wood surfaces. I have only corrected the horns for the aileron control cables which in the kit were too massive and oriented at a wrong angle to the stick axis. I have added the control cables, too. Otherwise what you see comes from the box.

Before the fuselage closing

And just afterwards

It is worth to note that the kit has some nice technological features simplifying the assembly, the inverted cabane struts moulded together with the fuselage top being one of them.

Very nice, I was hoping someone would build this soon, I built the Eduard 1/72 model years ago and loved the lookof this aircraft, but not the pe struts. This model looks to have solved that problem..

The interior is well detailed for the scale, did the instrument decals come on the sheet or did you add them. I am assuming the came on the sheet.
Can’t wait for more instalments...

The interior work is lovely Przemol, I really like the wood colours, this is another of your builds I will be following.

Great start Przemol, what a beauty at this scale (or any other).

Hey Przemol
You sure are prolific! But never at the sacrifice of the art of detail, I so much enjoy watching your work and will follow this one as well.

Cheers,
Alistair

Great start - love the wood grain and lozenges.  Didn't realize it was 1/72 until I read the text - lot's of great detail - thought is was larger scale.

Thank you, everyone.

Ray, that is right, the instrument decals are from the kit sheet. There is also a decal for the one on the top decking and two faces of round counters for Spandau rear ends. As I said, a fine kit all around, highly recommended!

Looking terrific as always with your builds! So tempting to do one of these...but I must resist  :o

Some more work.

The fuselage joints cleaned with a slight amount of CA filler

The u/c gear assembly is made easy by the simple jig and the clever moulding of struts in pairs connected by the ribs which click into the openings in the said jig. I hope, the joints of the struts to the axle-winglet will hold the stress when cutting those spurious bits and delicate sanding to remove flash.

Some fun with PE bits for the Spandau coolers, tank fill caps and louvre panels

Oberursel provisionally assembled and fitting to the cowling

No serious problems encountered so far.

Continuing to be a great build. The built in jig is very clever! The PE bits look excellent especially condidering this is 1/72nd!

This build was so straightforward and quick that I had no time to take photos. Now this little model is complete. One shot here, more in the appropriate section.

Fantastic work, Przemek.

Your photos of the landing gear assembly illustrates so well what I have always thought about Arma - they are very cleverly engineered kits. Assemblies which would be a bunch of crappy butt-end jointed sticks in some other company's kit - are done in a user-friendly way that increases the fun factor of the kit.

I will be ordering one of these soon.
