Well it has been a few days since I finished the triple build so here is my next project. As far as I know Roden is the only company to accurately depict the nose panels on an OAW DIII. That being said they missed on a couple of details. The most obvious is the wing radiator which is oversized. I am posting a photo of Bos radiator over an enlarged drawing from the Data file. As Ray gave permission to do this in another thread I am assuming he has no issues here. If so I will gladly delete the photo. I am also posting a photo of the kit rudder with an outline from the WNW Albatros DV rudder drawn on. If I am correct they should be the same size?

So my first work will be to correct the radiator. I will probably use the WNW radiator and save the Bo version for the WNW kit.

Looking forward to this one! I'm not a huge Albi expert, but I think you are right about the rudder size.

How great to see this kit being build by your magic hands, Rick. Can't wait to see its yellow nose...

Hi Rick:

This was one of my first WWI builds.  I will be following along to watch what you do.  These Roden kits, albeit not up WNW standards, turn into a nice model.

Are you going to do it in the "Candy Striper" scheme?  I found it extremely challenging to paint the stripes and keep them evenly spaced, still a striking scheme.

I too am looking forward to this project Rick. If it is only half as good as the triplanes it will still be a front runner in my estimation. If you do choose the red/white stripe scheme that will be a real challenge - but I'll bet you will get it right all the same.

Stephen.

 Mark,
I remember this beautiful build! Back in the Old Aeroscale days IIRC.

Yes Rick:   It was my first or second foray into WWI, it still graces my shelf here in AZ.  I am looking forward to see what you do with this old 'chestnut' as it is a pretty decent kit.

I have begun the work on fitting the new radiator. I outlined the new radiator with a scribing tool in its proper location. Then I used a RB productions saw to cut out the opening. I test fitted constantly as I went through the process. The photos show the initial rough cut and dry fitting of the replacement. I am also including shots of some of the PE goodies I will use. Part of Poland and the PE from an Encore Albatros DII. I will pick and choose the pieces I want to use.

Since I took the photos I have gone back and Tweaked the location. I moved it back a fraction and made sure all was aligned properly.

RAGIII

PS: The radiator PE on the Part set is oversized just like the kit. The Encore PE Radiator is pretty close to being correct but represents what I believe to be an earlier version.

I have fitted the WNW radiator to the Roden wing. The primer shows I need to do a little more touch up and tweaking.

Looks like it belongs Rick.  I will be following your build.  I like these Roden kits, although haven't done in awhile, but; they build into a nice model and yours are always outstanding.
