Hello All,

This was on sale in my local hobby shop £12! I've been toying with trying one for a bit and at that price I couldn't resist. A toss up between the Fokker & the Spad - I think the weird strut fixings on the Spad tipped the balance.

I'm definitely a high tech kit man so this one will be a challenge, but the kit looks solid despite its age (60!!!)

I see Edgar on CSM has a photo etch sheet and a resin engine.. any other indispensable items that you could recommend?

Replacing the jacketed machine guns is a must - any ideas?

They've even included some thread which will come in useful if I have to sew on some buttons during the build  :)

    Time to start carving a wood one of your own, Guy. With your demonstrated skills it should be a breeze! I believe you'll enjoy the challenge of a vintage Kit, gets one back to the basics and is a refreshing break.

Old memories from my childhood coming back on this one, good choice Guy.  CSM also has alternate decals and prop hubs.  Looking forward to your progress.

I too remember building this more years ago than I care to mention………

I also agree with Lance - carving a prop from wood should not present any real problems for you and it would look so much better than plastic. In this scale lamination should also be straightforward(!)  I am certain that this will be turned into another gem on your table.

That's a nice idea, but I'm afraid it's too late Richard.. I just tracked down the Tom's Modelworks PE German Gun set #400.

If there was one thing I couldn't make it would be the guns... ::)

OK, I confess. I may enjoy scratchbuilding, some parts really deserve a more complicated approach. Guns are one such area, and there are so many good engines around that scratchbuilding one of the common ones doesn't seem worthwhile

Tom's Modelworks stuff is great, and damn close to scratchbuilding...

Well, maybe not - just test fitting the major components. I'm surprisingly impressed by the overall fit - it seems really rather good! The mouldings are better than I was expecting too. I think with an overall sand the slightly overdone surface detail will look not too bad at all. The trailing edge on the elevators is razor sharp!

Pretty good so far. The obvious miss is the cockpit framework - will be addressing that next I guess.

Still a grand 'ol dame, TOM'S MODELWORKS for the Photo-etch Interior is the preferred.  The CSM one is the last that was done BEFORE Edgar and Crew took over, ( thus the sale price as I believe he is going to redo that sheet) their new 1/28 engines are the best ! And if you don't want to carve your own CSM props are equal to the engines ( if there are any left )

Too late!

Sanded down the wings and quite pleased - I've only sanded fore and aft and laterally and it gives the generic appearance of canvas (with a little imagination  :) )

Tried a coat of primer on one wing and looks ok I think - it's not quite as pronounced as the photo shows as I gave the primer a gentle rub too which has accentuated the highlights. Looks fairly subtle in the flesh.

I seem to be racing along with this...

Great fun! I think I'm hooked on larger scale (please mr Wingnuts  8) ) can you imagine a WW's 1/24th Scale Be2c?!

Sanded off all the moulded on detail and am replacing with a mix of wood veneer, plastic strip, rod and brass tubing. I'd like to get Edgar's CSM instruments if nothing else - I suppose I could use Wingnut decals but they're going to look too small in this scale I reckon.
