[AZ MODELS] Ansaldo SVA.5+extra
« on: May 14, 2017, 05:57:40 PM »
Hi everyone,

here my attempt to built two Ansaldo SVA 5 from AZ Models and Pegasus.

A single large sprue, two half fuselage, a resin cockpit, a clear film to make the windscreen compose the Az kit.
It's very basic with thin details, the fuselage is very well shaped.

Instructions is on a A4 page:

Now let's have a look to the Pegasus kit....no comment, there's some heavy works expected!

The goal is to made a little scratch built on the Pegasus kit to obtain an idro version.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ansaldo_I_S.V.A._(SVA_Idro).jpg#/media/File:Ansaldo_I_S.V.A._(SVA_Idro).jpg

I didn't find a lot of informations about it, I will use some pictures from the Windsock datafiles. I would like to make the prototype with sopwith baby floats.

I started slowly by making internal wooden structure on both kits, with evergreen profiles and oil painting,

I'm lucky, I get two instrument panels with the AZ kit!

As you can see on the following picture, I need to cut deeply and reshape, too thick...

...filling gaps and depression!

And have some painting test!

Cheers

Great start on both!
Nice instrument decals, which ones did you use?

Great beginning on your duo.  Looks like a challenge, but your work indicates that they will turn out beauties.  Looking forward to your progress.

Very impressive start!
It looks as though the plastic on the Pegasus is thick enough to allow reshaping the fuselage, which is a relief! Are the instrument decals part of the AZ kit?

Thank you all! The instrument decals come from an waste pieces of decals sheet from Eduard SSW 1/48, they are not the right instrument at the right place but they look as if!

Hi everyone!

I'm working on the wings, specially the upper one. For the standard SVA5, I needed to cut the Az piece and create the tubular junction. Copper tube is used for this step, drowned with cyano and baby talcum powder to fill the wing's thickness. Drilling wasn' t so easy, so I' ve choosen this way.

Gas tank is glued too on a piece of plastic card as it is showned on some pictures from the Windsock data book.

General view. Some tenons are added on lower wings.

Upper Pegasus wing' s view. No comment! I have to fill and sand all imperfections and create the waves of linen surface.

Have a nice weekend.

Hello friends!
One full year since the last post, my god! ;)

I will not tell you the personnal reasons that took me far away from my kit, the most important is "I'm back on the bench, starving". My new workshop, with only artifical lights...but it works and I've enough space. The two ansaldo are in place.

I needed to start by something, so I made a new beginning with the wings of the hydro version. Cleaned, sanded and surfaced.

This ready, wings are drying. My choice now is to drink a beer in my garden or sratch the ISVA's floats. I made both, but not in the same time. ;D

So I draw the float's profile, using the only picture I got from my WD book about the Sopwith version. I cut it, glued it on a piece of 6/10 styrene, and put together 4 more pieces of styrene with some extra fluid Tam. The job is to sand off all out of the drawing marks, by controllind the squaring.

Ready to fix sides with the structure...

Done.
Cheers :)

Very impressive, I've been tempted by the AZ Model kit but definitely not the Pegasus one...!

Nice clean workbench as well. How long do you think it will stay that clean....?
