ICM's 1917 Ford Model T Ambulance
« on: February 04, 2017, 01:22:56 AM »
I have been in a modeling slump for the past couple of years and I have not been able to shake it. Even building sci-fi, car models, ship models,...nothing seemed to work. At least not until I started building Italeri's F7F-3 Tigercat into an USAF A-2F Tigercat used in Viet Nam; but that is another story. I "discovered" ICM's neat Ambulance kit and it just seemed to click. I started building this out of box, with nothing extra done and it literally started falling together. This is an incredible kit right out of the box. I am building this as the AEF SSU 524 Ambulance in France, 1918. I bought another one to do as the French version and put some work into it. I feel my mojo coming back.

Here is the requisite box art:

I will post more later. Thank you so much for looking.

Thanx,
Carl

There is a nice little engine that could use some sparkplug wires if you are going to leave the hood (bonnet) open. The unpainted part is the steering gearbox.

The stretchers are very nice. I just wish they had one that was folded.

Really an awesome Kit. Could this be of any interest:

Barbusse.

Here are some more bits. The wheels are completed and painted in light grey because apparently rubber wasn't rubber back then. ICM even included the valve stems.

The cab is completed. I had to touch up the pedals.

Here is the canvas roof. It has a lot of sink marks that I didn't fix since you cannot see them anyway when it is on.

The siren is really neat; but the horn is solid so I hollowed it out as much as I could.

Everything together.

The bonnet installed and the roof on just to see how it looks.

You really cannot see anything inside with the roof on the stretcher in place. That is why I want to build another one.

I remember my Grandfather telling a story of how he crashed one of the first US Ambulances he drove...he was a driver in East Africa and apparently wasn't used to left hand drive, and forgot that the spare wheel was on the right...he took a corner into the hospital too tight and the spare wheel hit the wall, knocking it down!
 I'll definitely be following this!
