My first completed WW1 model & first completed post here
« on: November 11, 2016, 09:15:24 AM »
Couple of firsts for me, my first completed model posted here, my first Wingnut Wings build & my first time using Aviattic decals.
Here is my first completed WW1 airplane & my first Wingnut Wings build. WNW Fokker DVII (Alb) in the markings of Richard Kraut of Jasta 63. Built to represent the aircraft before surrender to the Allies with it's original top wing & tail. I used Aviattic decals with 'brown tint' for the lozenge with the remainder of the markings are the kit decals. Added HGW seat belts, Taurus Models spark plugs, used wire for the spark plug leads & other engine pipes, wire & stretched sprue for cockpit details & the rigging. Haven't attempted turnbuckles yet, will add that detail on my next WNW build. Have 2 errors, I forgot to apply the 'datum' decals on the forward fuselage sides prior to the clear flat overcoat and I did not scratch the radiator support that is visible when the engine cowlings are removed. Hope you enjoy the photos. Any comments are welcome.

Your first WW1 model, your first WnW model and the first time using Aviattic lozenge decals, you certainly don't show any signs of being a newbie to WW1 aircraft modeling. You have produced a superb looking model, the engine looks brilliant as does the cockpit, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work, I think we are in for a treat.

Nicely done . How was the prop done?

Thanks for the comments!
For the prop, I painted a base coat of light wood & used a dark brown pencil to draw in the laminates with a gloss clear coat after.

So many firsts, not the least of which is your first WWI Aircraft Subject...............certainly doesn`t show, looks like you`ve been at it for a good long time! Lovely work, I have this Kit and intend to do it in this scheme. This airframe was one of several dozen that was acquired by Canada immediate post war, and flown by one of our premiere aces, Capt Andrew McKeever at Hounslow in the UK in 1919. Your version is inspiring to say the least, I hope to see more of your work soon!
Cheers,
Lance

That's a stunning result for a 'first' - lot's of nice touches all round but in particular that's some superb detailing on the engine.

A definite indication for much delight to come I'd say - well done indeed

Can I join the chorus? I am sure that although this may be your first WW1 kit it is not the first model that you have made. That is something to be really proud of - superbly finished in every way, especially the engine and cockpit.
