1/32 Academy Nieuport 17 Raoul Lufbery Lafayette Escadrille
« on: November 06, 2016, 01:27:30 AM »
This is my first foray into 1/32 scale aircraft. Not a bad little kit and although not up to the standards displayed here I'm reasonably happy with the result.
Paint was basically Misterkit French Aluminium but I used the Vallejo satin finish for the engine cover whilst using their gloss varnish for the rest.
I used the Mastercaster cockpit kit which tbh caused more trouble than it was worth. Very fiddly and a poor fit.
Also for the first time I tried to fit turnbuckles which was an interesting experience but have gained confidence for the next time.
A lot of lessons learnt and many thanks to all those who helped with their advice in my build which can be seen here.

Toby,
I commented on your final posts in Under Construction but must add my compliments here as well. Great back drop for your photos, really sets off the model. I am very impressed with the contrast you've achieved between metal and fabric areas and the access panels in the cowling area, masterful finish!
   What's next in 1/32 Scale?
Cheers,
Lance

Me too Toby - yet another 'Well Done' for a really striking model and photographed so well too.

I love the backdrop - very convincing particularly that overhead shot - am I right in thinking that's a readily available accessory? (Copy and flattery are words certainly springing to mind here  ;))

Congrats indeed  :)

Regards - Tug

For a first attempt at a WW1 subject I can only write Bravo! It is a really good model - as others have commented the differences between the metal and fabric areas have been feel done. The photos show a first class model - hopefully you will be building more and will share with us.

Stephen.

Thanks Tony, I thought they might be but couldn't recall the name. A visit to Hannants is on the cards then  ;)

Hi again Toby - I've just checked Hannants and Noy's but can only find the actual ground cover in 1/32 listed. The hangar backdrop appears to be only available in 1/48. Is your backdrop in 1/32?

Ah you've spotted my artistic licence. Yes I used the 1/48 scale as I reckoned it wasn't that important for back ground. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression

Well I have to say Toby if I hadn't noticed it on Hannants I would never have known from your images. They look just fine and fully in keeping.

Maybe they will produce the backdrop in 1/32 to go with the WWI ground they do. Whatever, you have given me a lot of food for thought  in coming weeks ;)
