Very impressive progress. All Parts look fantastic and I love the way you wrapped the cabane struts. Very clever!

Wow, Tug,
you make this IMHO rather "boring" looking plane becoming a real stunner.
Such an outstanding detail paintjob! Thank you for showing.

Hi 'Guys' - As always, thank you all for your interest and input  :).

I confess I do like weathered subjects   ::) but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea and I guess I do tend to over do things but I'm glad you like it.

Ian - many thanks for describing your method.  I have done similar with flicking paint off a brush onto armour subjects as well but of course the area is far more open than the semi defined area of wheel spray under a wing. It's controlling that area that I found difficult. The Kleer 'spotting' followed by pigment is new one on me though so will certainly try it out. Thanks indeed for the tip. That's some nice shading/highlighting on that DVII BTW particularly on the fuse  :)

Having a good clean up this morning- Ha, been reading Anthony Beevor's book on the Ardennes offensive and have been sidetracked looking into a couple of armour kits  :o

Thanks again,

Regards - Tug

She's lovely Tug.

for the spattering -- tried a toothbrush? Cut all but one row down flush with the base. Load with paint, flick with thumb by ruffling. Practice on scrap. Works for me!

Thanks Bo - nice one.

Yep I've used a bristle brush in that fashion before but no, never ever crossed my mind to take out all the bristles save a row  ::) Now that is lateral thinking  :D. I will try this out forthwith.

Strange you and Von B think of the aircraft as a 'she' - I thought that was reserved for ships - it's usually an 'it' for myself

Thanks for looking in

Hello Marc - nice to hear from you  :).

Nope guys, I haven't managed to escape today but I did get this far yesterday. All the parts on now save the struts which just require finish painting before the top wing goes on.

This is always a worrying moment though it always seems to work out okay, A heavy wash of white spirit and a ouch of Lamp Black and Burnt Umber (Alkyd) oil paint has just been applied.

Ten minutes later with the spirit evaporated off a wide flat brush was used to smooth the residue out

I had to have two goes at gluing the cabanes in as two of them didn't take the liquid cement well. Revell Contacta proved a much better bet. Rigging is Ushi Standard line. The rigging on the U/C is mono filament in the hope that this will help strengthen the rather flimsy structure. There's one or two small areas that  require touching up but this week should see it come together.

That's it for today, hope you've had an enjoyable day as I have had, I'm now going to put my feet up with a large malt and watch the box for the rest of the evening

Merry Xmas to you all - Tug

Looking better all the time...still so much for me to learn!

How does the white spirit wash work? Sounds a bit scary. Does it just add another layer of washing/weathering?

Thanks
Alistair

Hi Rick, Des and Alistair - my thanks as usual   :)

Alistair - It works by providing a very thin layer of the diluted paint evenly over the surface. Once the thinner has evaporated it leaves residue of the oil usually in any engraved line or accumulating at prominent edges. On Flat Tamiya paint it will also have an effect of staining it slightly which helps even things out - a bit like a glaze on a painting. As you can hopefully see from the first image it is mostly thinner with very little colour. Using it over acrylic, if it does appear slightly overdone, it can be reduced some by a wiping over with clean thinner on a wide flat brush though if it has 'stained' a light colour too deeply this does not have much effect. Despite doing it for many models now I always have reservations just before I apply it but it always seems to come out okay.

The model can be clear coated beforehand which will prevent the staining but then the effect is not the same.

Hope this is of help

Regards - Tug

Hi Bertl,
Thanks for looking in - your comments are much appreciated  :)

All the small parts remaining are now finish painted and ready to fit so it's just the rigging lines to attach to the top wing and the struts to the lower and it can come together at last. Need to begin thinking about a base now as well.

Back soon - Tug
