Thanks to everyone! I appreciate it.

I accomplished a few little things over the past week & weekend. I attached the axle & faring to the undercarriage struts. The bungee cords were made with strands of sewing thread coated with Future to hopefully keep the individual fibers from getting out of hand. The wire axle retainer is a piece of wire painted to represent the fabric covering.

Just for fun, I added the wheels for a mock up photo.

Other little things were done, like permanently mounting the machine guns, making a windscreen & the cover between the machine guns. I’m not sure what the proper name for that cover is, but shape of the Eduard piece didn’t seem quite right. Using the illustration in the WNW instructions for reference, I made one out of brass sheet. The paint was still a bit soft, so it is not yet glued on, just placed in position for the photos. The windscreen is a piece of acetate heated into shape, then cut out. I rubbed a silver pencil over the edges to maybe give an indication of a frame. In the photos I see a bit of roughness on the edge, & it could be flakes of silver pencil color. It could also be frayed acetate. :P

Steve,
It's been over 3 weeks since I've commented however I've been checking on your progress consistently. I know I'm repeating myself somewhat but I can't believe the detail you are achieving in this small scale. The clarity and neatness in the detail is exceptional; I have to say that, in my view, this build is right at the top of the ranking of 1:72 Scale Builds I've seen here, and there's many exceptional examples in the files. Great modelling, well done!!
Cheers,
Lance

I agree with Lance. This is one of the best 1/72 builds I've ever seen. In fact, it's up there with the best of any model in any scale. Congrats! I can't wait to see it finished.

I am going against the grain here and will list all of the parts of your build that are not absolutely brilliant.

Thank you!! As I said before, it is all you guy's posts that inspired me to give this a go. Still, so much to learn.

I hope to make it to the rigging without fat fingering anything, but time will tell. Mounting the top wing is bad enough for me to think about. :-[

Great work, Steve.
If I may, let me tell you, that mounting the top wing on Albatros D.V is not bad at all. Attach the V-struts to the upper wing, let them dry. They should be perpendicular to the wing. When glue is setting, check the spacing between the tips of the V's. Then glue the wing with the struts to the lower wing, a support will be necessary to hold it against the inevitable tilting forward. When this is set, you should be able to add the cabanes to stiffen the structure. Usually only at this stage it turns out if they have right length and geometry. Such a way works for me in 1/72 scale, where the top wing is not heavy and should hold well, some time at least, before the cabanes are added.

Take your time, this build rivals any 1/32 offering.  Good luck (I suspect you do not need it with your skill set)

I have to say again that your build is looking brilliant! I agree with Juan in that it is as good as most 1/32nd builds!

Thank you all, the kind words are truly encouraging & appreciated!
It's been a couple of weeks since the last update & I managed to get the top wing mounted & did the rigging this past weekend. Many thanks go out to Przemo, Ian & Scott for the helpful advice.

A quick mock-up with the full tail, not yet glued on.

At this point, I am still unsure as to whether or not I will attempt to represent turnbuckles with paint.
