Australian War Memorial Albatros D.Va S/N D5390/17

I'm not the best photographer, but someone may find these of use. The AWM has several aircraft on display and their "Over the Front" exhibition is well worth seeing (http://www.awm.gov.au/visit/anzac-hall/over-the-front/). The link takes you to a page that also contains more links, including one to the restoration of the Albie and another showing how they matched the new fabric.

The aircraft, believed to be from Jasta 29, is Serial Number D5390/17 and was flown by LT Rudolf Clausz when it was shot down by an RE.8 from 3SQN, AFC.  LT Clausz was wounded in the thigh and his plane came down in 21 BN, AIF's sector.  The LT was captured and the aircraft recovered under shell fire by 3 SQN AFC personnel.

The RE.8, flown by LT JLM Sandy with SGT H F Hughes as the observer, is the famous "ghost 'plane"- Sandy and Hughes had both been killed during the action, but the aircraft kept flying and eventually found its way back over the British lines, 80km away from the engagement, where it landed. The full story is at http://cas.awm.gov.au/item/RELAWM04806/ .

Anyway, here's one photo', there's more at http://members.westnet.com.au/~DalGavan/Albatros_DVa.htm .
